Pre-Op Liquid Diet...omg I'm STARVING
Oy.
This morning I'm not hungry--but--I feel soooooo stopped up it is driving me nuts. I took some stool softener last night hoping to get things moving...my belly just aches. :(
This can't be good...any one else feeling this way?
Who ever said their doctor lets them have salad in addition to this--I am insanely jealous! I'd kill for some veggies...but I'm terrified to cheat at all...

I did clear liquids for five days pre op. I guess bc I was so afraid my liver wouldn't be hard and reduced, I really stuck to it. When my mom told me the surgeon came out and he said he could tell I really did well on my pre op diet, I glowed. I knew it was all worth it. I really believe that is one reason my complicated surgery went so well. I didn't lose any blood, removed my stomach to a sleeve, rerouted my intestines, removed my gallbladder and appendix.
It definitely is different pre op to post op. Post op, you can't even have water for 24-48 hours, so you are dying to just drink something, when you finally do, you get sick feeling. You have to sip soooo slowly. You can almost feel it go into your new 'stomach'.
Its true you don't get as hungry, per se, post op. I've done liquids for seven days post op now and its definitely not as hard. But I'm finding myself dreaming of food, but I know it would be different to eat it now than before.
on the pre op liquid, I ate jello, crystal light etc. post op I can have broth, juice, pudding, jello. I have one more week of this and then pureed, which I'm looking forward too.
You all will do great. Just stick to the surgeon's orders and it will be worth it!

I'm on day four (of 14) of liquids... and it sucks! Today was definitely better than the previous days... I am on OptiFast... 4 shakes (I chose all chocolate) and one soup (either chicken or tomato) a day. I can have water, club soda, crystal light and sf Popsicles. I have been dreaming of chicken... and almost had some yesterday... but at the last minute... I made a detour straight for home! Yea for me!
It depends on the type of diet you are on... I can't have jello or broth... but I am getting in 70 g of protein with the Optifast... so the hunger does go away... but I am positive I will never eat chocolate again!
Good luck... and I am praying for smaller livers!

I'm on full liquids--which means I can have the "cream" part of the cream soups--so I put some homemade clam chowder through the Magic Bullet for a while until it was about like not-set pudding and had a very small bowl of that. Good Lord was that good. I actually feel "full" for the first time in two days. Not "stuffed" but satisfied, not hungry. I put the rest of the pureed soup in the freezer for post-op when I can have full liquids again...:)
Just have to make it through tonight and tomorrow and I'm THERE! :) Gosh I'm so excited! :)

i paid $300 for a two week supply of optifast. I had two cases of shakes, vanilla and strawberry, 2 boxes of soup, tomato and chicken to boxes of bars, berry yogurt and chocolate. I was told to eat 4 shakes, 1 soup, and 1 bar A day, 3 sugar free jello cups and 3 sugar free Popsicles if needed and as much crystal light as I want. After 1 week I went and spoke to the nutritionist and told her I was starving all the time and couldn't stand it, so i cheated with salads and fat free dressing. She told me she prefer i stick to the plan but if I had to eat something make sure it is zero carbs like lean protein. So now i do the diet with 2 boiled eggs for breakfast and baked fish for dinner if needed. much better now.
Well you know I'm starving then! I paid $142 for my 2 week supply... but that is only 4 shakes and one soup a day! I can have all the SF Popsicles and crystal light I want...
I am starving too... but I can't have anything else... The headaches are going away... finally... but I did get a tip to blend the shakes with ice... and maybe some SF international house coffee... I am going to try that...
So glad you can eat more! Good luck with your surgery!

Protein, Protein, Protein, oh and some carrots, dry salad. I like ice cubes. Made me think I was eating something preop. Honestly, you get that much protein in all day long and you don't feel hungry. I would stay away from fatty things but I stole an occasional bite from my son's onion bagel. I lost 23 pounds, pre=op. I am 7 days post and have no appetite at all. Chrissy
