Does everyone have to do these injections for the first week post-op?  To prevent blood clots.

My surgeon said it was something to apply, so I was thinking it a cream or something. I'm not sure. I don't think I could do a long needle, I've done the short pen type needles and have no problem with those. I would probably get someone else to do a long injection.

Normally it is for people that are high risk for blood clots or have had a history of them.

I am taking Lovanox right now for 6 days pre op and then I am not sure how long afterwards but I have a history of clots and take coumadin daily.

No fun!! But I would rather be injecting these long needles than to have pulmonary emboli again...

Good luck and I hope you do not have any promblems!

I'll have them for 10 days.  My surgeon does it for all of his patients as a preventative measure.

I'm doing them for 2 weeks after surgery. You have to give the injections in your stomach. I've hidden the 14 syringes so I don't have to think about it until it's necessary.

Chris
