How Long Did it Take You to Get a Surgery Date?
I've been considering surgery for the past 6 years. I've been to 3 seminars! The first time I decided I could do it on my own, and had to because I had zero support at home. The second time I got as far as calling my insurance company and was told they did not cover it at all. There was no way I could afford it on my own. The third times the charm! I scheduled my seminar, met with my surgeon, and I got my tentative surgery date that very day. That date has actually not changed! That was this January. I've had 3 visits with the dietician, a psych eval, a counseling appointment (I opted to go, it wasn't required) an upper GI, and an EGD with biopsies. There's been a bunch of labs and physical therapy in there too. I have to take a wls class, have one final appointment for weigh in and final labs plus one more visit with my pcp and then April 8th it's on! I've spoken to the insurance company, but haven't gotten final approval. They won't say yes or no until the week before my surgery. It's gone so fast!! I was asked to lose 10 pounds and at last weigh in I'd lost 9.2. I'm so excited that there's an April forum!!
I Started my 6 months of weekly Bariatric Weight Management Program in September. My last class is March 25th. In this time I have had a sleep study done, been seeing a psychytrist regularly, and have had a endoscopy. I learned about VSG in my classes and decided I no longer wanted RNY and want VSG. My surgeon dosn't offer it as an option so I had to find a new surgeon. I went yesterday to see my new surgeon for the 1st time and he said how about April 5th Thanks Doc!! I have surgery in 3 weeks!!!
He said your graduation from the program is march 25th, you need to see your PCP for a pre op physical and labs, and you need a psych eval from your psychytrist, and it takes 2 days for an insurance approval. April 5th is GOOD!!!!

I started a PCP monitored diet in April 2009 just so I could be ahead of the game if I needed to do a diet. I am right on the border of needing a 6 month diet so I thought I'd do it and if I needed it, great. If not, fine.
I went to the seminar on November 12, first consult on January 29, February was full of required sleep studies, psych eval and pulmonologist appt. Now I'm 3 weeks away from surgery and can. not. wait!
