I feel guilty writing this but I from the time I had my first seminar to my surgery date was about 3 1/2 months. It would have been shorter but the holidays got in the way and my doctor was on a sabatical. It might have been 2 months to 2 1/2 months.

Let us know how long, what your experiances were and what you did the day you got your surgery date.

I will write more of my own experiences to this post will have at least one reply.

Wow how lucky is that?  I started my journey 10 months ago I made at least 20+ trips to Manchester, this is where My Doc is and the hospital where I am having my surgery.  Did you have to do the sleep apnea thing and the other evaluations?

Hi Sadie or is it Ginger (let me know)

I didn't need the apnea thing but I did have the other evaluations. I think this WLS stuff is structured pretty much the same all over but not entirely.

I was falling apart in almost every comorbidity except the sleep apnea thing.

You sure had a lot of appointments. Did you ever feel discouraged? I never complained just waiting the 3 1/2 months after seeing how long others had to wait and all the struggles they had to go through.

I need another picture than Mama Bear don't I. It's a bit silly but I was trying to be light hearted about the whole WLS experience.

Thanks for posting to our site!

I admire you for taking a long time researching. I didn't take but about 6 months to research and decide I wanted to have WLS. I bought books, researched reputable sites on the Internet.

I thought I had to see my PCP for a referral and not included in my time period is the month I had to wait for that appointment. Then my PCP said I didn't need a referral and that the surgeon would be the one who would contact her. It was a good thing that I went any way because I had a serious sinus infection and needed antibiotics.

How does going to Mexico work? I was going to be a self pay too. I decided adding 20 years to my life was worth getting a second mortgage if I had too.

I am 54 years old and I felt like I was going to keel over from going up stairs. I could not  get up from the couch without my hands helping me and I had to lean over to do it. On my last birthday we had about 8 people go to Applebee's to celebrate. I was so embarrased that I could not get into out out of the booth. The table moved as I tried to scouch over to the end.

Please if you have a question or comment post it here as well as the main board. It looks bad for me to have my avatar all over our site.

Let me know about your Mexican surgery. I know at least 3 people that didn't think they could get the surgery because their insurance would not pay for it.

See you again.

Mexico is good, you just have to research a lot and really use good judgment. Theres a popular doctor that I personally think is a sham artist so you have to read between the lines. I'm glad I waited 3 years because I wouldn't have found ds and I wouldn't have a doctor that I trust so much if I didn't wait and do all the research.

I also had to find a really supportive pcp. She is totally on board and did my pre op stuff. so lots had to happen to bring me to this point. I'm super nervous and terrified basically. I have small children so just extra guilt thinking if something goes wrong.  I'm a worst case scenario person to begin with!! lol

I think it was about a year from the beginning of my journey to the time I got my "date". I made an appt w/ my PCP, she referred me to the sleep apnea clinic, I did that testing, waited months to go to the first introductory class about GBS, then waited more to start my actual round of 20 weeks worth of classes, then waited another 3 weeks to hear from the surgeons office and then another 2 weeks to get my date. (Numerous trips to the dr for lab work, etc were all mixed in there as well as a trip to San Diego for the Nut/Psycologist/Surgical consult, too.)
