What Kind of Pre-op Diet Will You Be On?

Oh boy! I hope someone is reading my posts. If not I don't give up too easily>

I write this but I don't know what my own pre-op diet will be. I have been on the reducing the liver diet. I have lost 18 pounds so I may have "reduced my liver down to nothing". Seriously I have been folllowing the post-op full liquid diet, vitamin, exercise and water requirements. I may have left out something.

I go on a 3-5 day liquid diet but I need to ask if it's full liquid or clear. I'm lucky no weight required to Lise.

I don't think they were too concerned with me being on the liver reducing diet. Since I had less than 100 pounds to loose I guess I am what they call a light weight. I wanted to loose some weight so I would have less to loss post-op.

Lise I am so glad to see you returning to our forum. We will get it going. Keep in touch so I know how you are doing.

Hi there
I have a question. My surgery is on April 27th and I'm suppose to do the opti fast diet two weeks prior my surgery I can buy the whole 2 weeks diet at the doctor's office for $300 .......  but I'm doing some research on-line and I keep finding the same package (two weeks optifast program) for at least 50% less . Any idea if there is any difference between what I can buy only or at the doctors office?

Good luck to you

That's an awful lot of money. Can you look online and find a product with the same nutritional value. You don't have to buy it online. I think there is a high protein ensure. When you look at a product online it shows the nutritional values and ingredients. Looks just like it would on the product.

I started my vitamins about a month ago and am simply following the post-op full liquid diet. I make protein shakes with fruit and add splenda. I blend them all together and put them in a glass goblet in the freezer. It takes forever to eat a frozen protein shake. I always make 3 every night and freeze them for the next day.

I lost 18 pounds in 4 weeks doing this.

I am sure we are all going to have to do something yukky to clean out our intestines the day before. Plan on staying home and don't let anyone hog the bathroom.

Keep coming around now and then or I will miss you.

They can't possibly expect everyone to pay that price!! That's crazy! I'm sure if you get something comparable nutritionally, it will be fine. Let me know what you find. I'm learning all I can about protein shakes!! I have a feeling they will be in my future for a while! Emily

I know Optifast can only be obtained via prescription thru your doctor.  So first of all you have to find out of this is a requirement from your Insurance that it has to be a supervised diet from your physcician.  I can give you examples of the diet I was given from my bariatric dietician/surgeon's office if you would like.  They are strictly guidelines.  Let me know.

I saw this post and wondered if you would share your diet examples with me.  I have not lost enough weight and my surgeon has postponed my surgery.  However, he DID NOT give me any guidelines or help to lose the weight he wants me to lose.  If I was good at coming up with ways to lose weight, I don't think I would be his patient in the first place!  Anyway, if you don't mind sharing, I would really appreciate it.  Thanks...Maggie

I'm doing the OpitFast too... I got it at the hospital pharmacy for $142 for the entire two weeks supply.  See if your doctor can write  you a script for it.. and get it filled at CVS or something. They may have to order it, but it would be worth the wait for half the price.  Also, because I got it at the pharmacy, I was able to use my flexible spending account for the purchase.

Good Luck!

I have to do a 10 - 14 day high protein liquid diet and colon cleanse the night before.
