Have You Made Post-OP Preparations?
I guess I am going to have to answer my own question. These are some of my preparations.
1. My surgery is on the 12th (a Monday) and I will be getting out of the hospital on Wednesday and my husband has taken W,TH, F off. But I am ready to send him back to work if he is more of a bother than help (lol).
2. I bought a ton of tiny containers that I can put 2 ounces of meals in and freeze. I figure since I cook for my husband I might as well save the left overs for me. This will happen when I can eat soft food.
3. I made two cabinets just for me. They are full of foods and clear liquids. One has all of my vitamins, drinks and tableware.
4. I went to Tuesday Morning and bought the prettyist and most colorful small dishes as I could finde. I want my meals to be a special as I can make them.
That is just some of the things I done.
Thanks for visiting or replying.

Wow you are really on the case!
Well I haven't done nearly as much as you have, but I am encouraged and appreciate your comments. They will help lead me in the right direction. Both my husband and myself are retired, so he will be available as much as needed, and probably more than needed (LOL). He is very supportive of my decision to have the surgery, but a little nervous I can tell. But I guess the reality has indeed really started to hit home for me. My 4 hour pre-op preparation is scheduled for 4/12 and I think that will be when I start my pre-op liquid diet for the next 2 weeks. I'm going to need big time prayer for this one (LOL). It seems like since I had my first consultation with my surgeon (2/3/10), I started anticipating my new lifestyle and started eating everything I knew would no longer be a part of my everyday life and gained 2 #'s. So today I started mental and physical preparations with a high protein, low carb diet with lots of water. I have also been researching and sampling different protein shake mixes and discovered that Unjury and Chike both have decent taste. They not exactly yummy, but I can get used to them.

I also bought 2oz containers for jello, pudding, etc.
I was not asked by my surgeon to lose any weight prior to surgery, only to walk/exercise as much as I could as well as not GAIN any weight, lol.
My date is 4/2 and I am preparing by beginning a high protein liquid breakfast and lunch.
My surgeon asked me to start taking 1000mg of vitamin C daily in addition to the Vitamin D, Calcium, Biotin and Multi I've already been taking.
I bought Reebok easytone shoes to walk in (I can totally feel a difference when using them!), a mini eliptical machine and resistance bands to help me keep fit and active before/after the surgery.
My pre-surgery consult is 4/1 and that day I will be on a liquid diet (I think you have to drink 120oz of water that day). In addition to that we were told to take 3 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesium(sp?) to help flush any remaining icky-ness out of our intestinal tract.
I also bought chewable and liquid vitamins for post-surgery. I got the centrum silver (no iron so I can have more control over how much and when I take it) and some of the Bariatric Advantage Calcium, Iron and Vitamin B.
I am getting ready to start packing my bag, but I have a few more things to get: Dry Mouth spray for the day of surgery (they only allow ice chips, if that) and for digestion after surgery Papaya enzyme chewables... these really help, supposedly.

The dry mouth spray name brand is called Oasis... the papaya enzyme is manufactured by many companies and I found them both on Amazon. I get paid friday and I think I'm going to have to buy them both right away so I have them right after surgery. The Papaya I know I won't be able to use immediately following surgery, but I'd sure like to have that mouth spray... I hate dry mouth like no one's business!!
Hubs saved a bunch of vacation time just for this (his vacation time renews on his anniversary date, April 29th) so he has quite a bit of time off. He works nights so all of the dates I'm mentioning are the night of that date.
April 5-8 off
Kids to my parents for the 9-10
On my own for the night of the 11th and morning of the 12th.
12-17 off
On my own 18-20
21-23 off
On my own 24
25 & 26 off
All I have to say is I'd better not have to deal with disciplining the kiddos or cooking any meals when he's off. That said, I can't wait to spend time with him. He works 12+ hour shifts 5 nights a week then sleeps the rest of the time.
I have found protein drinks I like right now, but am not buying a ton until after surgery, when I know what my taste buds are going to do. I am going shopping sometime this week for SF Jello's, broth, popsicles, etc. Oh, and I started freezing meals for the hubs and kids months ago, but don't have a ton. I've been addicted to Mexican so there are lots of burritos, fajita chicken strips and fajita steak strips, but not much of anything else.

I am just beginning to prepare....
My mom will be here the week I have surgery. She doesn't live too far away and will be taking care of the kids and me. My friends will be on hand to take care of any groceries and cleaning to do. The kids will be on school vacation the week after so I will be here and should be okay as they are 13 and 10 and pretty self sufficient. I have not bought anything except sugar free puddings and jellos. I do have some samples from Vitalady. I have tried the sugar free Carnation Instant breakfast which is not too bad. My sister bought me a Magic Bullet for my birthday. I need to get small dishes and sippee cups. Not sure what else. I have a list on the bulletin board of things I have read. But you better believe I will be ready come April 12th!!
Oh yeah...I picked up the Weight loss surgery for dummies book today.

Hi all! I just got my date today (April 12th) so you are so far ahead of me in prep!
So far I have bought a new digital scale and some smaller containers for making meals ahead. I have been on the vitamins since January, when I went to my first office visit and they suggested we get used to some of the changes, like daily vitamins! I've been taste testing some varieties of protein drinks, but am still open to suggestions (hint hint!)
Mainly today I have had to fight to keep my mind on what I am doing at work because all I can think about is how happy I am that I got my approval, and that April is right around the corner.

These are some of the things I've done to get ready so far.
1. have bought several 2 and 4 oz containers to store food.
2. have set 2 pantry shelves up just for my food and drinks.
3. have organized my closet by size so they'll be ready when i drop :-D
4. bough****er bottles with lids instead of with straws or suction tops.
5. made my post op appt with my family doctor for B12 shot and iud
6. bought all my vitamins and and put them in a basket with an old cell phone that has alarms set
up so that I will remember to take them.
