It's just so crazy the way our minds work. I LOVE food and it is going to be tough to leave it behind. I keep thinking that I want to have a " Last supper" and eat my favorite things. Oh god, where would that end? As I consider a lot of foods to be my favorite things!!!! Oh, and a margaritta, I must remember to have one of those, it's been awhile and it looks like it's going to be quite awhile before I enjoy another one. Just remember friends, nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. (I hope!!!) LOL

Thank you so much for this helpful list. I started the bariatric program on Jan 8th 09 and was told it would be at least the end of May till my surgery. I started on South Beach diet that day and have somehow managed to lose 44lbs since then. So when I went for my NUT appt this past Wednesday and since I had met all requirements and had such a large weight loss they set me up with the sugeon for that Friday. Next thing I know i'm sceduled for surgery April 21st. It was like Whoa!!! I have been so focused on doing this South Beach I really had not thought about what I will need to buy for after my RNY. I dont see the dietician untill 2 days before surgery so this was very helpful. Again thanks so much. Nanci

My surgeon warned me about this and then gave me an even sturner waning. :(

He calls this phase 'The Last Supper" and said...if you gain weight, I won't do the proceedure as you will be higher risk. That was that. I was a little surprised, but it sure has motivated me.

He then put me on a liquid diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery..... It's not so bad, and I am breaking those habits day by day...it's hard work so I'd rater do it pre surgery than after.

That all said...when i decided to have surgery 3 years ago...i did just what your talking about..I ate and ate and ate......and gained so much weight and ended up not having the surgery. LOL!

I can relate to what your all saying, but this time.....I am all over it......my surgeon wants me to reduce the fat deposits around my liver and stomach as recovery is faster.

i'm now dealing with what I call 'head talk' or 'head hunger" and it's an inner dialog that encourages me to eat or 'why bother'. It's quite an amazing journey....this is not us v's food I realise. This is clearly body v's mind.

If you can, start your liquid progress weeks pre surgery so you have come to terms with some of it pre surgury. I figure we will all have enough to handle after surgery with managing how we handle our new stomachs, without having to deal with the first couple of weeks of head hunger as well.

Hi I'm Shey*ne,

I'm 37, single and work as a baby w*hisperer in Australia.

I have a BMI of 53, and have been looking into surgery for three years. Originally wanted to have lap band but after talking with my surgeon decided on Virtical sleeve gastrectomy.

My older sister had hers on December 5th 2008, and as of yesterday has lost 40 kgs. I barely recognise her. She has gone from a size 26 dress to a size 16 dress in 4 months and she is still loosing weight at a staggering 13 kgs a month and loving life more tan ever.

She is exercising everyday, and pushing herself ahard which is why she is doing so well and I am determined to follow in her footsteps. No exercise will equal average results for me, so I choose to get into it and excercise like I have a lot to lose........because I do.

I am on optifast for 4 weeks prior to surgery, and am doing fine. I am dealing with 'head talk' issues and am needing to re program myself about when and what I eat.

Luckily no real hunger (just head hunger) and no food mourning thank God.....but a little fatigued.

I was nervous when I finally booked my date for surgery, but that has all passed and I'm READY! Yay!

Watching my sister has made it much easier.

I am scared about how I will cope with the lack of sleep my industy experiences when I am on restricted calories....... I am well known for NEVER being tired or impatient...Uh Oh! LOL.

I think it's going to be in my head. I am determined to remember this is a choice I made for myself and not complain to friends and family. I want to be gracious and grateful for this opportunity, and even when it's hard, I want to make it look easy and gather strength and support from the right anenues (forums, OEA, support groups, therapy if needed).

Looking forward to watching your journey!

Cheers

What are all the surgery names. I don't know the terms

Looking forward to getting to know you all. Best of luck with your pre op diets kids.

This is a very exciting time!

so a few days ago on a whim i decided to grab a box of hair dye at the pharmacy... I havent died my hair in forever... i guess i was in the mood for some change... I am a blonde and i picked up a dye for a blonde with a hint of red. it came out a little more red than i would have liked but im ok with it its growing on me....

well you know how your hair always looks darker when its wet? Soooo... i get out of the shower and my 2.5 year old yells at me . "mama your hair is red!" i tell him "whats the matter you dont like mamas new red hair" he says

"NO MAMA.... ITS RED LIKE ELMOS"

i guess they didnt label the box properly..... it shoulda been ELMO RED... lol... maybe they'll gimme a refund
