My surgery is 4/21/09. I'm having a lap VBG. Started the 1000 calorie diet on Monday. Can't believe that the day is coming so close. I have an endoscopy on Thursday and then back in on 4/21/09 !!!
Looking so forward to be a few months post-op and dropping some weight to get more active.

You know, it's weird but my surgeon doesn't do the 2 week fast prior to surgery.. so I just do a 24 hour liquid diet prior to surgery. 
How long do you have to fast for? And Congrats on your date as well!!

Man, this is weird- my surgery is also on the 16th, but I am really calm. Last night I had to sit down with a friend (who is my designated plug puller if something awful happens) to discuss what if. All I kept thinking is that it is crazy that I am wasting so much time on something that is not going to occur.
My real concern is what if I forget to take something to the hospital that I will need.
Currently I am missing food and this liquid diet is for the birds.

Thanks! Everything went great and am back at work. Hope everyones surgery goes great this month. This is the month we start our new lives!

I have my surgery on the 14th. I go from excited to petrified. I just hope they give me something to calm me down the morning of the surgery. I'm afraid if I'm at the hospital too long before they knock me out, I might chicken out!

Hi Ya'll... my date is set, got my pre-op shakes. Starting the two week pre-op diet 4/13.
Going shopping soon for all the sugar free drinks, popsicles etc.I can find! Any suggestions??

I was told by a bariatric surgeon that the very low calorie, pre-op diet, can reduce the size of the liver up to 20%. So much work has to be done under the liver and inside the rib cage it is physically impossible to lift the liver out of the way without it tearing. She said in about 10% of the cases when patients don't follow the diet, the surgery can not be completed and the patient is sewn up and the surgery is rescheduled.
That was enough to motivate me to stay on the diet!
