Topic: RE: Surgery April 21st, anyone around the same time??
Hello! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! My date is April 22nd and like most of you the anxiety is starting to creep in on me. I've been excited for several months now but yesterday at the pre-op I really felt the anxiety coming on. It's really going to happen and it's only one week away! I am so excited to get this thing rolling!

I am also a diet soda addict as I see several people on here are. I'm dreading the headaches but that is a very small price to pay for an all new me, right? I just signed up today and noticed all the different pre-op diets...how strange. You would think they were all pretty much the same.  My surgeon requires a 48hr clear liquid diet which isn't too bad! Anyway, would love to keep in touch with all of you since you are around the same date in case I need advice and/or support.  Good luck to you all!

Thank you, I thought I would give it today and see how it does. I have had crystal light, oatmeal and 1 EAS protein drink ank I just finished the drink and my stonach is already girgleing. I thought I would try the soy.

try switching one item at a time, I dont usually have a problem with SF stuff,,, but the SF jello i guess in addition to all other liquids and not much else spelled disaster for me. IT WAS HORRIBLE! i sympithise with you. I manage a home depot and the bathroom is on one side not in the middle so it was terrible. It was not even diarrhea, it was water. (tmi) Once i figured it out, it wasnt completly gone but was soooo much better. My suggestion would be to try the applesauce first and sub something else. (applesauce is a no no for my kid as this gives him a definate case of the bubble guts) Another thing you might want to consider is how much milk were you consuming before the liquid diet phase? before i started the liuid diet my surgeon explained that the protein that we are drinking is from milk. Even if you are not lactose intollerant drinking so muck milk products is like a shock to your body and takes some getting used to. maybe try a soy protein for the day and if that works gradually trade one for a whey protein every day. I heart milk and drink it always so i knew this wasnt the problem for me. Best wishes on your upcomming surgery! Hopefully you will figure this thing out cause stuck at home is not fun....

Hello,
My surgery is April 22nd.  One week from today!!!!  I'm having the RNY.  I've had all of my pre-op testing and all is a go.  I'm soooo ready to get this done!  I just want to get on with my life.

My wife had a RNY on April 7th.  She's doing great!  She walked six miles while in the hospital.  It will be good to go through this together.  Our surgery dates are only 15 days apart.

Neither one of us had a pre-surgery diet except liquids the day before.  We both did up our exercise routine before surgery.  Kind of did the last meal thing.  Actually, we just went out to dinner a couple of times, nothing really excessive at all.

Good luck with your surgery!

The answer for the most part is liquid in= liquid out.  Since the bulk of your diet is liquid, that's what's going to come out.  Pretty normal and won't get much better until you are off that diet.  I am going through the same thing, although I am only allowed clear liquids for 2 days (broth, jello and popsicles).  Good luck on your surgery!

Topic: RE: How important is it to diet before the op ?

Hello!
The pre-op diet is very important and not to be messed with.  Mine was 3 protien shakes and 1 meal a day.  I had a hard time finding a protein shake that I could drink without gagging.  I was only getting 1/2 to 1 per day and so I thought I could have a little bit bigger meal to make up for the calories.  I only lost 1 pound when I got on the scale this morning for my surgery.  I was all set to go in to the operation room in 5 min., my surgeon came in and said she was canceling it.  She could tell that I didn't stick to the pre-op diet.  I had to have my IV taken out and change back into my clothes and go home.  Now I have to meet with the dietician and counsler again before getting another surgery date.  Not sure how many more months that is, so stick to it!  It's hard, trust me I know!  They will cancel you and let me tell you the feeling of having to go home today was the worst feeling I think I have ever felt in my life!
