Thank you! I hadn't thought of the pedicure. I'm going to do that too. It's been awhile since I've had one and it's very relaxing and I'm sure I will be a bundle of nerves the day before. My date is the 17th of april. Good luck with yours too.

Well, Friday the pre-op nurse told me to wear cozy socks(they're letting me wear those into surgery) and I can wear my acrylics(nails)w/polish I just have to take off my wedding ring and other jewelry(I'll just leave them home), although she did joke saying she'd be more than happy to "keep" my wedding ring for me.  She gave hubby a shot in the ribs telling him he had great taste in jewelry when I told her he picked it out all by himself.  I am totally impressed with this hospital.  Everyone there from Security to housekeeping are just so friendly.  We kind of got turned around and this lovely lady in housekeeping stopped what she was doing and walked with us to the turn we should've made, who does that anymore?  We were just "pleased a*****h" (as hubby's grandma used to say).  Isn't sad that in this day and age a simple common courtesy throws one for a loop?  I guess that's the way of the world.  Have a great day!!

I'm scheduled for surgery on 4/27 and I recently read in a WLS book about suggestions on what to pack for the hospital.  Everything you all mentioned is in the book.  Another suggestion was leisure bras.  I'm packing my IPOD thinking some good music will help soothe me.  I'm also considering taking my cell phone.

Best of luck to you on your new journey.

I went to my pre-op visit today, I was told I could also bring my laptop to the hospital.  I start my liquid diet on Tuesday (04/07), I can have, 4 protein drinks per day and 6 servings of: v8 juice, 1/2 c plain oatmeal, cream of wheat or cream of rice, 1 c sugar free pudding, 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce, raw vegetables.  Then there's other things that go along with those first few days.  Then the diet changes 2 daya and the day before surgery.  I am sooooo excited.  I have to admit, today was an extremely loooong day!  Everyone was wonderful though, except that x-ray tech, I tried to chalk it up that maybe he was having a bad day, oh no he's just nasty, one lady said she's been there a few times for x-rays, she said he's just plain mean and nasty.   But all in all, it was a great day.  I'm exhausted, but i'm still super stoked!!

Hi There, we share the same surgery date, my name is Jill, and I'm having my lap band surgery in St. Louis, MO.  We have 9 days to go, I'm still excited too, just needing alittle reassurance every once in awhile however.  MY pre-op diet-my doctor said it should be a 1400 calorie diet, we could do slim fast if we wanted, high protein, low carb things.  I have stuck with the slim fast during the day and some raw veggies here and there, protein drinks (which I like Isopure @ GNC)  I like the grape frost, it has tons of protein in it, and it tastes just like a grape frost Gatorade.  So far I haven't been too hungry this way.  I wish you the best in your surgery, hopefully we will get together in again after surgery.  God Bless!  Jill

Congrats to you on your upcoming surgery.  I will have to try the Isopure Grape Frost.  So far I've tried a few of the Nectar powder protein drinks.  So far I like the twisted cherry and the lemon iced tea.  The fuzzy navel is quite disgusting and the Caribbean cooler is much too sweet for me.  I tried the Chike protein powders, I liked the chocolate(which is surprising because I don't care much for chocolate drinks), the banana and the strawberry.  I thought I was going to gag when I tried the vanilla and the orange.  Someone said it tastes like an orange creamsicle, uh, no it didn't- trust me, it was awful.  I'm just trying to find something that I can tolerate.  Well my best wishes will be with you next Tuesday(wow it's really getting close!) as we begin our new journey.  "Meet ya on the loser's bench!!"

Hi Cindy,
Just thought I'd let you know I had my RNY surgery June 17th with Dr. Moore. Everything went very well.  Felt terrible in the hospital,, but that was to be expected.  By Sunday i was feeling very good and feel I could have returned to work Wednesday.  When I went for my follow up appt. I teased Dr. Moore, asking if he really did the surgery.  I've had no problems with food, gas or any of the other un-nice bodily function problems.  I'm just not real crazy about the protein supplements.  I'm having trouble finding one I like without aftertaste.  and since I don't really care for chocolate I'm limited.
Well enough about me, how have you done these past 2 months?
Keep in touch,
Cindy in Gloucester
Best Wishes,
Cindy

This is my list:

□ Chapstick
□ loose fitting stretch pants (for walking halls)
□ Sleeping Mask*
□ Zune or media player (&charging stuff) (movies, music, & games)
□ Nintendo DS & Games
□ Laptop Computer
□ Cell Phone & charger
□ Hairband
□ Babywipes
□ Toothbrush & paste *
□ Shampoo *
□ Deoderant *
□ Listerine strips or Mint strips *
□ Clean Sponge (to help keep mouth moist post op)
□ Neck Pillow
□ Camera & Battery Charger
□ hair brush
□ Undies
□ Socks
□ FemHP
□ Kleenex
□ Crystal Light or Kellogs protein drink mix

The baby wipes are just for whatever. Being a mom of 7 I always find a use for them. I plan on renting a laptop for my hospital stay and if I can upload a bunch of games and movies onto it then I won't bring the Nintendo and Zune.

Also the clean sponge is something you can use after surgery since you aren't allowed to drink anything afterwards so the sponge you can soak in water and just moisten your mouth, but don't drink the water from it.

I too heard about the TOM showing up after surgery. It's not so much the weight loss as it is the blood thinners that they give you that induce TOM.

Kleenex because hospital tissues are so sand papery and I always need to blow my nose, so I want some soft stuff.

I was told we can bring Crystal light to add to our water. I plan on bringing the Kellog's Protein Water packets to flavor the water and to get in extra protein.

I plan on just using their gowns. My shoes are slip on clogs which I'll use as slippers and I plan on wearing a loose fitting dress to the hospital and home.

I think this is my list. I may add or remove things as I get closer. Only 18 days left for me now. Eeeeeeeeeeee!

Visit us at Motherhood after WLS !
Mom to 8 ~ Adelyn Grace arrived July 8, 2010!

I went to the dentist Saturday morning for a cleaning, and Doc knows about my surgery, he called me into his office and gave me a few tubes of chapstick that have his name on them.  He said I'll need it afterward and that'll remind me that he's thinking of me.  Some of the girls from the dental office said they'd come up and visit when they get off work.  My daughters have strict orders to call the office and let them know everything went well.  They've been our family dentist for many years, they're like family.  It's amazing the people that cross your path in life, isn't it?  I didn't think about bringing a movie to play on my laptop.  I may bring my favorite movie in the world, Steel Magnolias.  I won't bring anything too funny, as it may hurt to laugh. Tonight is my last night of "chewable" food.  Hubby is making my favorite dinner that he cooked for me when we were dating, his spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and iced tea.  He usually makes it for my birthday(when it falls during the week- weekend birthdays we usually go out).  I told him that has to be my "farewell to fat" dinner, because I'm going to miss it so much.  But hey, there are other things to be happy about.  I am now in a healthy state of mind,  I am on to better things than my next meal or edible treat!!!
