What are you taking to the hospital?  I'm very curious. I'll be there for two days,  I have a tendency to over pack.(lol) for anything and everything.

Hi there. My RNY is on 4/7/09. But I had a hysterectomy a few years ago, and my hubs had his RNY 2 years ago, so here's what I would recommend:

Don't take any pretty new nighties and fancy robes.  If there's any blood or goo, you'll want it to be on their stuff.

Don't bother with make-up or jewelry. You won't feel like either.

Do wear a comfortable outfit to the hospital that you'll want to wear home.

Do take lip balm, hospitals are so dry.

Do bring your own slippers so you can walk the halls.

Lastly, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo if they let you shower.

Good luck!!

I won't be staying the night, but I work at a hospital and see what patients bring to keep them comfortable.  I would add reading material, laptop if you have one, handheld games (solitaire, Texas Hold'em, Yahtzee), your own pillow (comes in handy to cushion your abdomen from the seatbelt on the ride home).

Hey, great post.  Thank you.  I haven't given any thought about what to pack, but now I'm starting a list.  Another item to remember, for those of us who still receive a monthly visit, tampons/pads.  I've seen many people post that they started while in the hospital.  Something about weight loss and estrogen?

Ohhhhhhhhh, I hadn't thought about the monthly visitor!!  Thanks for that.  It would be nice if I can bring my laptop, then I could chat with both my daughters when they get back to the house.  I could also chat with a couple of my friends that are out of town as well.  I've made my appointment to have a pedicure done the day before I go in (tootsies must be cute while in the hospital).  I'm going later today to purchase new slippers too.

I would check with your doctor about the pedicure.  They may not want nail polish on your toes.  This is the case with my doc.

Oh, darn, didn't think about that.  I hope they don't tell me to "pop" my acrylics, I didn't  have to for my gall bladder surgery.  I guess I'll just get a pedicure and no polish, at least the feet will be "pretty"- if that's even possible, lol.

Where are you having your surgery done at?

Madison Heights,MI About 17 minutes from my house.  My surgeon is so awesome.  The day I was approved, he called me personally to congratulate me and to see if I had any more questions for him.
