Topic: Required 6-month Diet for Surgery Approval
Has anyone challenged their insurance carrier about the "required" supervised diet for surgery consideration? My insurance carrier requires a 6-month supervised diet. From what I understand I need to see my PCP for once every six months. Each visit should also be spaced out between 30-35 days to be considered for surgery. This seems ridiculous to me but I wanted to know if any of you have been successful in overriding this request. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Wishing you well also! My RNY date is April 18 and as each day passes the excitement grows. Thanks for the warm thoughts!

Hi Ladies
I too had surgery on April 2nd. Mine was to be gastric bypass laparoscopic but once in there were some complications and they had to open me up. I came home on Saturday and have to say every day since has been a struggle of some sort. I keep thinking if I have to drink 1 more ounce of water I am going to be sick but then I find the strength to do it. I haven't had a hard time getting my liquids, it just seems to be a struggle in that area due to the limitations. Right now I am on full liquids and wouldn't you know having cravings for things that are a big no no for quite a while like fish, asparagus, lobster on green salad, omg I cannot wait to be able to eat seafood. My stomach growls alot but I think it is trying to over power my brain into thinking I am hungry! hahahahaha at least that is what I keep telling myself. I had gained a total of 25 pounds before even leaving the hospital and not sure what if any or how much has come off because I refuse to get on a scale until my first follow up on 041408. My ankles, legs and thighs are swollen and I as well had to sleep sitting up until last night. I never realized just how good it felt to be able to sleep on my side. Take care and the best of luck to you both! Keep in touch, we can celebrate our milestones together!

Hmm.. i don't think you are going to find much help on this board dear. This board is for people that are going to have surgery this month. Most of us are still pre ops. I would post this in the ROUX EN Y forum..... but have you ever looked into the possibility of a stricture? Just a thought! Good luck and hope you feel better soon!!!

Hi there!
I also had surger on the 2nd...Friday, Saturday and Sunday were my WORST days also. I felt so weak too, it seemed a huge effort to do anything, even talk. I think dehydration and lack of nutrition, as you say, really contributed to my problems. All of my incision sites were bothering me, so I slept on the reclining couch for the first few nights. I told my husband, I felt like I would never be "normal or strong" again.
I'm happy to say I'm feeling better today on Tuesday. But now my stomach is growling all the time, is yours?
I've been trying to update the blog on my profile, so maybe if anyone else, like us, has these problems, they'll know they're not alone.
I hope you're feeling better.

I'm feeling much better now...day 6...amazing what a difference 2 days can make. Maybe I did have a virus or bug of some sort.
Now, I am starving hungry!! My "lower" stomach growls (really loudly) almost constantly. I will admit the hunger pangs are not as strong as they were before the band, but I am hungry. Has anyone else had this problem? It's really embarassing, my stomach "talking" all the time. I'm keeping up on my protein, to try to curb the hunger, but the rumbling and growling continues.
I went to Wal-Mart for the first time last night with my 2 daughters to stock up on "snack foods" for them. That was really difficult for me. I was very hungry, and felt really SAD that I can't eat anything right now (I'm still on liquids.) Everything in the store looked so good, like I'd never seen food before.
