Topic: Need Information
Hi Everyone!
I have been attempting for a couple of years to have the Bi-Pass surgery.
My employer has chosen an insurance company that does not include the Weight Loss Surgery rider. I've been denied by the insurance both for the surgery and the appeal.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to overcome this or are there options?
Does anyone know of an orginization that will pay for the surgery? My husband and I don't have the necessary $$ to pay cash ourselves. I'm so Frustrated!
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!

Topic: RE: APRIL 14th & a lil scared
Hi Ashley! I had my lapband surgery Thursday, April 10th. It went great! No pain meds and I was up and walking right after they wheeled me to my room! Had to stay over one night because my insurance company said so. I had nothing to drink on the day of the surgery and Friday I started my clear liquids....1oz every 15 minutes. Got home on Friday evening at 5pm. Doing great! I was nervous, but excited. Now it's Saturday morning and I'm still doing my liquids every 15 minutes! They gave me a cute lil timer in the hospital. I really have no pain. Just a little soreness around the little incisions where they went in. Piece of cake! Be strong! You can do it! Keep me posted!

Topic: RE: lap band or Gastric bypass?
I used Dr. David Syn in Lubbock at the Advanced Bariatric Surgery Center. He is very good. I had my year anniversary in March and have lost 135 pounds. Dr. Syn only does the gssric bypass.
Topic: RE: Starting the liquid diet tomorrow... Ugh!!
I think you are right. This liquid diet is a great way to prepare us for the post-surgery diet. I am finishing up day 4 and I am finding that I'm not hungry too much at all and that really surprises me! I feel like I am doing well because I am so ready for this surgery. I'm not crazy about veggie juice so I am having a cup grapefruit juice each day. I'm also allowed 1 c. milk OR 1/2 c. low-fat cottage cheese OR 8 oz yogurt... it's really not too hard to follow. I did eat extra cottage cheese the first day but I figure that wasn't too bad... what I really wanted was one of the cheeseburgers I made for my son!! LOL Anyway, thanks for the support... we are both going to get through this and be much healthier and happier!! Good luck to you too!!

Wow... you're on a cruise? That is amazing because from what I hear, cruise ships have food available everywhere! Good luck! I am finding that the liquid diet is not as bad as I thought it would be. I am not hungry much and I feel satisfied. I think it is another way to prepare us for the diet we will have after the surgery. Good luck with your surgery!! I hope it's a new beginning for us both!!

Thank you for responding! I am not finding the liquid diet too bad either. I thought I would be hungry all the time but I seem to be doing ok (which is amazing to me!!). It was tough the first night when I cooked cheeseburgers for my son for dinner, boy I really wanted one, but I resisted. I think the fact that I am so ready for this is helping me get through these 9 days. I did cheat a little by having extra low-fat cottage cheese that first night but I figured that was better than a cheeseburger!! Anyway, I am almost halfway through the 9 days so I think I'm going to make it!! Hope you are still doing well also!!

If we could all lose the weight on our own we wouldn't be getting the surgery so don't beat yourself up. Good luck on your pre-op weight loss and continued weightloss from here on out.

Ashley, I have seen so many different responses to questions like yours. Some people say no and that they are back to normal by day 3 however I have a very low pain tolerance and I am 8 days out and just now starting to move around. In the end I know it will all be worth it. Good luck and I will be praying for a speedy recovery with little pain for you.
