Topic: 10 months out
Tomorrow will be 10 months out. Preop 242 and down to 134. BMI is now 22.8 and in the NORMAL range!!!!  Only jumping on the scale about twice a week.  For the first time in my life I don't even think about the scale.  Been thinking alot lately about "set weight."  Dr. Suh said at my 9 month appointment that he would like to see me at 120 at my one year postop (based on my height and bone structure ) and that there is usually a 5-10 pound bounce back and that 130 should be my set point.  I honestly think that 120 is way too low. Of course Dr. Suh was on my case about not exercising. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.  I am feeling great and loving every lost pound.   Down from a size 22 to a solid size 4.  I do not count calories but I do count protein every day to make sure I am upwards of 80-100.  I am doing 2 Nectar protein drinks, 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.  Maintaining with no problem and no effort.    I am sure that will change and at some point  and I will have to work at it to maintain. For now I am just enjoying the ride. Can eat meat and chicken well.   I can eat a few bites of pasta, rice, or potatoes with no problems.  Eggs sit like rocks in my pouch so I avoid them. Fluid milk gives me diarrhea but I can do  all other dairy just fine.  Love cheese!  No constipation problems.  I get mild diahrrhea if I eat too much fat.  Too scared to try too much sugar and find out I dump like a Tonka truck :)
Still have not vomited! Not even once! Zero complications! Zero regrets!

Lots of people have been asking about skin.  Yes, my stomach looks great. I attribute that to the fact I carried my weight all over verses the apple shaped.  My boobs are now  "toddler tube socks filled with lemons" but those can be dealt with a great underwire bra. My inner thighs have lots of extra skin. I knew they would be as I always had thunder thighs.  I see board shorts as my bathing suit choice for the summer.  I honestly have no desire to do plastics.  Maybe that will change in the future I don't know but for now I would gladly take a little extra skin instead of 100+ extra pounds!!!

Curious to see how the other April 2008 post ops are doing.

I ahd my surgery on April 1, I have lost 106 pounds. I am stalled and it drives me nuts, I workout at the gym 4-5 days a week, lots of cardio and weightlifting. I get over 100 grams of protien each day, and drink my water. I eat what I have figured out not enough carbs, I am working on that. I track my fitness and food on fitday each day.  I want to lose 40 more pounds, but anwway otherwise strong, healthy and doing great!!

Added after receiving lots of great Personal Messages tonight from my WLS friends. Now wondering how readily accessible scales are that measure body fat. Going to see my PCP and hop on her scale that also calculates body fat through your feet like the surgeons office does!  Going to compare numbers on both of their scales for accuracy. Might even hop on over to the nutritionists office for a third scale "opinion."  Also going to call Dr. Suh's office to see what my & was at my 6 month visit.

I am so glad the increased  protein is working for you guys like it worked for me.  It soo jumped started my very slow weight loss. I am eatting 3 meals, 2-3 protein shakes,  am drinking three 32 ounces glasses of water (in addition to my protein  drinks) a day to get my 80-100 grams of protein a day.  Surgeon says the extra protein is what keeps the muscle from breaking down and forces the body to burn fat.  It’s working for me.  My surgeon is happy, my PCP is happy, most importantly I feel fantastic, labs are great, I get lots of compliments on how healthy I look and how great I look. I have tons of energy! Loving life!  I hit goal and am maintaining with zero complications. Whoo Hooo! Thanks again for all your positive comments and helpful info!

Help! I need info from my WLS peeps about Body Fat. I went for my 9 month post op visit yesterday. I get called back to visit my friend "the scale."  It didnt used to be my friend but I love it as it is actually nice to me now!  Knowing at home (butt naked) my scale is reading 136.5 I felt pretty confident getting on the surgeons official scale. So clothes on and shoes off I eagerly jump on! Scarry huh!  137 it reads. 105 pounds down!  That I already knew and its great as I started at 242. Then the nurse gives me a little statistic that I didn't know previously.  "Your percentage of body fat has dropped from 49 percent, (the look of shock I sure startled her as much as it did me to 5 percent."  It literally took me a good 15 seconds to think about it. I asked her to repeat it. I double checked the height she put into the scale. Asked how it computes the body fat. She said something about a charge or something it send through your feet, thus no shoes, and does the computations.  She said twice that it was accurate.  Holly crap!  I knew I was fat but I hadn't known much less visualized that half my body was fat.  Then I got to thinking about the 5, yes five, percent body fat.  Wow! That was impressive to me and I admit I dont know a whole lot about percentage of body fat  but even to me that sounded really impressive!!!  Let me remind you, I DONT EXERCISE.  I do upwards of 100 grams of protein a day + my supplements. I walk quite a bit during the day at school for my job but thats it!  So my homework tonight is to find out from my WLS peeps and educate myself on what the body fat percentages in gastric bypass patients. What's normal for WLS patients that are at or near goal weight? Anyone with any info please chime in!!!

I hit my 9 month mark yesterday.  I started at 344, and am down to 210 (134# down).  I was really hoping to be at the 199 mark by now, but I know it will come.  I have been in a major stall since christmas, but I am trying to up my exercise hoping that will help.

I started at a 5x shirt and 32/34 pant, and am down to a 1x shirt at 18 pant.  I feel great, getting a little sick of the skin already, and I have like 40-50 pounds to go.  I am hoping that since I have not lost any weight as of recent that my exercising is helping my abs.  I look fairly good in clothes with my under body armor on to hold everything in.

My hair loss has slowed significantly which I am very glad of.

The only thing I am having trouble with is being cold.  I wear long underwear and a turtle neck under everything righ now.  It doesn't help that the temps have been below zero the last few days here.

I have been a little bummed the last few days about the stall, but my hubby has been supportive and trying to encourage me.  He even says that if I stay where I am, he is still proud of me.  I know I can do more, and might just have to work at it, but I WILL GET TO MY GOAL!!!!

I go for my labs next week, and hoping that everything is still on track.

Happy Birthday to all the April folks!!!

I went from 238 on April 21, 2008 to 134. I am now stalled and teetering back and forth 2-3 lbs. I don't think I eat enough protein sometimes and also I have been eating and drinking closer together than I am suppose to. I need to start doing better with that. If anyone can, could you send me a day or two of what your diet is like at 9 month so I know how in check mine is with Food and Water? I still take my vitamins and a daily protein shake but other than that sometimes I don't eat as well as I plan to. Nothing too serious just not as much yogurt as I use to and sometimes I only eat a few pieces of fruit, 1/2c meat (whatever it may be) and a piece of toast for my daily meals. Any ideas? I want to hit this 119. Please help. Thanks

It's hard to believe that it's been over 9 months.  I had my RNY on April 1st.  The morning of my surgery I weighed 280lbs.  I am now at 158.  According to my Dr's office I have lost 105 percent of my excess weight.  I'm now wearing 8-10's and a M shirt. Now it's just a matter of where I want to stop.  My original goal was 175, who thought I would get that small, then it was under 160, now it's 145, which is the middle of my weight range.   I have a plastic consult at a local teaching hospital for my arms and breasts scheduled next month.  My arms are what bother me the most.  I want to be able to wear short sleeves and tanks this summer.
What a journey this has been.  I've had minimal issues.  My biggest tissue is eating too fast.  I do well with my portion sizes.  The NUT thinks that I may have some malabsorption with protein, so I have to shoot for a minimum of 100g.  I've had some anemia so my energy isn't want it should be.
I love my RNY!

Hi all,

I had RNY on April 21, 2008 starting weight was 265 today I weighed 145.  I went from a size 22 to a size 6.   My only problem so far was I had to have my gallbladder out a month ago.  Same surgeon did my gallbladder and all is well now.

I have never been happier.

I am enjoying life including my incredible 14 month old grandson that I have the stamina to play with.

Good luck to all

Karen
