Every day we will feel better, get stronger, and... be healthier!
Last night I had my first real bout of "post hospital nausea." I tried two different broths and neither tasted good AT ALL, so I didn't eat it. (Is anyone else finding that their pallet is changing?) After finally finding something I could eat, I ended up feeling very, very nauseated. I ended up sipping ginger tea and felt better.
Another weird thing... my incisions don't really hurt, however, the left of my belly button does. I feel a pull every time I get up from a horizontal position. What is odd is that it isn't where incision is! Is anyone else experiencing this?
I hope all is well,
Rebec

Hi there!
I also had surgery on the 14th. My tummy is still sore around the incisions. Still, it's much better than yesterday and so much better than the day before! I still have my drain. I know I'll feel much better getting rid of that.
Take care!

The days are going by so fast! April 28 will be here before I know it!! I can't wait!
Topic: RE: Mainecare will not cover me
Hi there,
I'm so sorry to hear that MaineCare will not cover you. That is very, very frustrating. I have a friend who is on MaineCare and had to have surgery to repair a hernia. It was pretty major surgery... and they kept her there for less than four hours!
Sometimes I wonder if MaineCare is really there for the care of Mainers, or whether they are just looking for a quick (and cheap) fix.
Regarding having a BMI under 40, most doctors won't perform any WLS without it. For example, my doctor requires people to either have a BMI over 40 or have some hard core health issues. I don't know if high cholesterol and asthma were on the list. (sorry to say)
Can I ask what your BMI is right now?
I'm in Maine too and would love to chat.

Monday morning, April 21 for me. I am excited, nervous, curious, fearful, all of these things. Overall I am so ready for this journey.

Topic: RE: Anyone else's date 4/23/08??
I'm another 4/23 date! I was supposed to go on 4/2, and did get to the hospital at 10am as directed, but was sent home because I was sick. I was crushed...cried and cried, but I knew deep down that I was too sick to have surgery. Turns out it was a good thing, I had an ear infection and bronchitis. I'm done with my antibiotics, and ready to have my rebirth day! April 23 is a special date for me and my husband too, as this year marks the 8th anniversary of his proposal (Easter Sunday 2000), and next month will be our 7th wedding anniversary.
Anyway, I'm not as nervous about the surgery, as the first two weeks post op, getting into my new routines and timing all my intakes. I'm so excited about this journey!!
Topic: RE: IM APPROVED!!!!!
Congratulations! I got my approval phone call on April 1. I thought she was playing a joke on me!!! I was thrilled beyond belief. It's 6 days after surgery and I am still thrilled!

Popular day for surgery, I see! I am having duodenal switch in Grand Rapids on the 23rd. They had told me I was the first case of the day with Dr. Kemmeter, but when the hospital called.. it is for noon. That's okay though. It will give me time to get everything in order and not have to rush around to be there at 7am. I don't think I will be doing much sleeping the night before though!
Good luck to everyone!
