Topic: 1 year out....

I had surgery 1 year ago, and I'm feeling great. Although I have hit a stall , since mid Jan I have not lost, but nor have I gained. I have times when I'm frustrated but then I look back at where I started and I have to say WOW to all the changes. I've gone from a size 22/24 pant to a 10/8 pant , a 2x top to M and sometimes a small. I started this at 266 and now I'm at 159, thats 107 lbs hopefully gone forever!!! I'm exercising and am hooked on it who would of thought!!! I have to say yes its has been a big change in my lifestyle with what goes into the "mouth" but all the "good" changes out weight the bad by far. A big shout out to my surgeon , the RNY procedure and everyone on this site for all the info and support I gotten over the last 1 1/2 years, even if I was mostly "lurking" about.

Hello Ron and congratulations on your success!

I'd be interested to learn more about how you benefited or not from the 12 step program.

1 year ago today I was going in for my surgery.  I can't believe it's been a year.  So many things have changed. I am no longer circus fat!  I am down 152# pounds!  I have lost 16 inches from my waist, 16.5 inches from my hips, 14 inches from my chest,  and 2.5 inches from my neck, and numerous other inches from all over my body!  I have gone from a size 34 pant to a 16, a size 5x shirt down to a 1x.  I can wear heels again without feeling like a clydesdale.  My naked body looks like a melted mushy candle, but I can hide all that yucky skin and look decent in nice clothes.

I don't get winded going up and down steps anymore.  I can sit in a booth comfortable, and I don't feel like everyone stares at me in public anymore.  The weight loss has really slowed down this last month, and I still want to lose another 30-40 pounds; not sure if it is feasable or not, but I will try.  I have been lucky that I can tolerate most foods without a problem.  I cheat once in a while, but I feel normal when I eat now.  I don't want the huge meals anymore, and I don't usually feel hungry.  Some days I still struggle with the protein & water, but this is a life long journey.  I will continue my journey and hopefully help others along the way with what I have learned so far.

Thanks to my wonderful husband who has been by my side through this whole process.   He stood by me through my horrible depression when I was first denied the surgery, then through all the hoop jumping to get the surgery approved, and me balling my eyes out on the morning of surgery.  I could never have made it without him!  Thanks to my wonderful sister too, who has shown me the way, like only a sister can.  My parents were also supportive and that meant a lot as well.

I never imagined what an entire year could bring... now for the next year and beyond!!!

Me presurgery at 344#

Me 1 year post op at 192#, total loss of 152#

This was my favorite out fit when I was wearing fat clothes... Now I can fit into one leg

This is a new outfit... size 16 pants and XL jacket!!!

Hi folks,
First of all, I must apologize for not posting anything about myself on this web site.  I'm a victim of the horrible experience of identity theft.  I hope this never happens to any of you, but if it does, you will understand how protective you get with your personal information.

At my initial consult, my surgeon told me I was on the low end of the patients she did surgery on from a BMI perspective, so I had no real goal in mind other than to become healthy and follow the post surgery recommendations as best I could and see where this journey would take me.

I stopped losing weight eight months post op with a loss of 92 lbs. from my high weight.  I've not lost any more weight for the past four months.  I became very concerned about this "plateau" as time went on.  I was following all my surgeon's recommendations from daily exercise to weighing/measuring, protein intake, vitamins......you know the drill.

So today, one year post op, I submit to the reality that this is where my body wants to be and I am comfortable with it and very grateful for the progress I've been blessed with!  I have had a near perfect post op recovery experience.  According to the people who know and care for me, they say I look good.  It's great when someone you haven't seen in a while doesn't recognize who you are.  All my comorbidities have disappeared.  I'm off all meds and the CPAP is packed up and put away.  Physically, I'm in better shape that I have ever been in my life.

I can't take any of this progress for granted.  Although my food intake is by no means perfect, I need to pay attention to it daily and make adjustments by recognizing when it's head hunger calling me.  After experimenting with going back to a food related 12 step program, just for today, I seem to be doing ok by attending an occasional meeting and reading some of the program material daily.  Daily exercise is now a part of my life.  I walk two miles a day.

Every day I check into the OH forums.  I'm a "lightweight" by the forum definition.  It's a very friendly and supportive place to visit.  For some reason today feels like I'm celebrating a birthday.  In a sense I am.  I've been given a second chance to live a new life one year after my RNY surgery.

So I'm very grateful to all of you for the contributions you have made to my progress on this journey.  I have gained an immense amount of knowledge, insight and support from you sharing your experiences, not to mention a few laughs.  I'll keep you in my prayers!
Blessings,
Ron
