I had lap band on April 14th. I had my second fill on Thursday and now am getting good restriction. So...knock on wood, the weight loss will speed up and I must, must, must get into a better exercise routine. Very good work Karen!

It's pretty vital to your muscles and to your hair (YIKES) that you get 60-70 grams daily. I take protein tablets that are 10 grams each. They're called Proteinex and I buy them online. Their flavor is good enough that I can get them down. I take them with my food so they go slower and I absorb more...hopefully. I know for sure that without them there is NO way I'd get enough protein now. I feel the same way you do. Best of luck to you!

I had my RNY on 4/21 and have struggled with nausea as well. I had my doctor put me on a scopolamine patch to treat the nausea. Makes your mouth a little dry, but you can eat and drink and it's worth it. Give it a try!

Topic: RE: April 2008 RNY's
I had my RNY on April 21st (246 lbs) today is my 8th week (214 lbs) and I have lost 32 lbs! I feel like I am on track, but of course we all want to lose faster. I wasn't exercising as much as I like to. I bought a Wii Fit and am working out atleast 3 times a week. I try to drink lots of water and eat the right foods. I am one of those people that can tolerate all different kinds of food (except chicken - puke). Need to visit eggface and vary my food and menus. I will check back in...wishing everyone the best of luck, health and happiness.

I can't eat more then 30 or 35 grams of protein in a day either. But I get the rest of the protein I need from a shake, which has 35 grams. So in total I'm able to have 70 grams of protein a day, which is what the book my WLS program says I must have each day. My understanding is that by 8 or 12 weeks, I'll be able to eat more food then 2 oz at a sitting, and then if I get 70 grams of protein in, in real food, I can stop the shakes. You probably want to try either premixed protein shakes, or protein powder you can add to drinks or soups or yougurt, etc.

I had RNY on tax day 4/15, finally a reason to celebrate that day. So far I have lost 34 pounds and I feel great. I am concerned that I don't eat enough protein, but I really have no clue how much I should be eating. I read the boards and others are eating 60 + grams per day. I have been tracking my food on thedailyplate, and I am averaging about 30 grams per day. The problem I have is that I am FULL and really don't want to eat (yeah) A normal day is B: 4oz Dannon Light & Fit, L: 2oz turkey (or tuna) + 1.38 oz Borden string cheese; D: apx 3 oz chicken, ground turkey, or fish (sometimes I can eat a little more than 3 oz) Is it that it is still early out and that is why I am not eating so much?

Thanks for the advice! It runs right along the lines of the advice the bariatric nurse gave me. She said nothing bu****er and tea, then go to beans, cheese and peanut butter, then if that goes well go straight to solids. She said maybe the purees were my problem. I'll tell you this much, I'll try ANYTHING. As for the silver lining, it's truly hard to appeciate the weight loss when you feel as if you're about to die. I see on the scale that I've lost 40 pounds since the surgery, but I can't "see" it yet, if you know what I mean. I'm to the beans and cheese part of the diet now and it has ups and downs. I guess it's a waiting game now. Thanks again for the reply. Kathy

My RNY was 4/29, and I have done very well with n/v, etc. Barring any surgical complications, maybe you need a "re-boot." Have you started over with the diet? Can you get small amounts of clear liquids to stay down? If you can keep ice chips and jello down, start again with the pureed baby foods, etc. Try just an ounce at a time at first. Every time something doesn't work, log it, so maybe a specific food or group of foods can be isolated as problematic. Even though it's not on the diet, I use an old pregnancy trick, and sometimes take a single Saltine cracker in the morning to get things started, because the morning is the hardest to get the stomach going again after it has rested all night, and that single Saltine seems to help. I know every surgeon has different protocols, but small amounts, chewed thoroughly over a loooong period has worked for me, and that seems to be the one constant in all RNY diet guidelines. Another thing that has worked for me is aromatherapy. Sniffing a little lavender or cedar/pine, eucalyptus, mint, (no florals), etc. has worked wonders when I needed it. Silver lining? Have you lost any weight? Good luck and keep us posted!
