Thank you for your encouraging words.  Did you also have a mini-switch?

I worry about the same thing, but I have decided I am going to FIGHT to keep this off!  I'm not going to let myself go back to what I did before.  I just keep telling myself I'm the only one in control of this!  You can do it, we'll make it, I know we will.

I had a mini-switch surgery in April of 2008.  I initially lost 120lbs.  However, now I am starting to gain it back.  I am freaking out for fear of going back to my 320 lbs.  I am at 215 at this point.  Any suggestions or words of encouragement?

Hi there - me too - I'm having a problem with my iron. After I ended up having a Petersens Hernia repair last August - I found myself much more easily constipated. Also during the 3 weeks before surgery that I was really sick - and of course while recovering - my intake of iron - food wise - was lacking - . I cut my iron back to 2x week after surgery last year. Feeling so tired and lack of usual energy - had my Hgb checked about 5 weeks ago. It was 104 - prior to getting sick last year it was 136. Your US values may differ. So - I am gradually increasing my iron to daily - and I was taking it with my AM coffee. BIG MISTAKE. Also would have my whole grain bagel shortly after in the am - none of which helps with iron absorption. I am not back up to the 180lbs which was my goal - I went down as low as 159 after my illness and surgery last summer. I was one unhealthy looking broad I'll tell ya. I'm now 170 - 173 - happy there and feel awesome. If my Hgb was perfect I could jump over the moon I expect. Glad you are well Deb! Now - time for the rest of the April 2008'ers to join in!

Would love to hear how everyone is doing. What  "things" do you think about now that we are this far out. For me its not so much of what I am eatting or drinking constantly--its just routine now. But my thoughts now are on calcium and iron.   Switching to Bariatric Advantage chewable so I can chew them at work.  Also switched to Vitalady's Tender Iron. Thought the iron I was getting from my multi's was enough but Ferritin levels are dropping even though Iron labs are ok. Also reducing the amount of sweetener I was using.  Scale is up a tad. Its running about 136 but I admit I was snacking a bit over the summer.  Cutting out a few snacks before a few pounds become 10, 20, or more.  Would love to hear updates.

Actually - at about this exact moment- I was in the OR waiting area - about to have my RNY. (My case was late.) I'm SO happy to have been able to have my RNY and I can't imagine feeling any better than I do at this moment. I'm healthier, energetic, happier. have a spring in my step, can fly through my 12 hr shifts in ER like I did years ago - and the list of the changes in me goes on and on. I want to say a special THANK YOU to my family and frineds who have been there right from the start. Especially to my Mom who was with me in Moncton two years ago today and last August through my surgery and recovery. To my husband and son who have rooted for me from the start and stuck by me no matter what. To my special friend KC - you know who you are. We met way back before surgery and you have been such a great cheerleader, support and inspiration to me - not to mention ALWAYS having my suite ready in New Brunswick. You rock. To Dr. Beausoleil and Lise and his team at the Georges Dumont - THANKS can't say enough! And -  to my wonderful co - workers who have  rooted for me, cared for me and accomodated my needs - you have made this journey SO much easier. Also - to two other RNY'er who live near me on the rock - one who I first learned about Dr B. from - you changed my life. And the other who is now 3 yrs out - YOU have given me invaluable support and info along the way - you guys ROCK too! To my OH family both on the main RNY board and here on the New Brunswick board - living here in rural Newfoundland - these boards are my main source of peer support, and are invaluable to me. Thanks so much to you all. I just hope I have been able to give a little back to some of you and "pay it forward" so to speak.
I just can't express how thankful I am and how blessed I feel. It's like being reborn. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome - and never in my wildest dreams thought I would EVER fit in a size 12 and sometimes a size 10. Something I have never done in my adult life.
So - it's off to work for my second of 3 twelve hr nights in ER. In my size Med scrubs that are nice and loose and a spring in my step.

Topic: RE: 2 yr surgiversary!
So glad you started this post. I was going to look up the other April 2008 folks.  April 16 is my day.  I can not believe its been two years. I am 5'4, starting weight 242.   Still hoving between about 132-134 which is where I have  been for almost a year. I hit a low of 127 when I got the flu (our school district won't give it a name oink oink oink but 80% of my classes were out over a two week period last October).  Scarry how fast it dropped. Literally over night. When I got sick I made a point of pushing the fluids and protein drinks even when I didnt feel like eating. Got the scale back up the following week.  I did have a bout with what could have been a gallbladder attack (pain in right side) shortly after the flu in October and again in December. Abdominal scans taken both times show no stones or blockages. Go figure.  Told it could be slug.  As for my weight,  I did discover that I can swing the scale up or down pretty easily if I want to but choose to keep it in my safety range of 132-134.   I still wonder if or when the 10 pound bounce back will happen. Hasn't happened yet.  I still do at least two Nectar protein drinks mixed with water a day along with 4-5 small meals.  Yes, I can do a few bites of bread, pasta, rice with no problems but really keep it in check.  Brocolli sucks. Got stuck once when I swallowed without chewing well. Never again! It hurt for days!!!  When they say chew 30 times before you swallow do it!!!  Getting my labs done every 3 months to keep everything in check.    No other issues. Still have never vomited (tried to heave at the site of a  friends dog when it  ate its own vomit!)  Iron stomach never failed me.     I sooo love my RNY. Can't wait to hear from others.

Topic: 2 yr surgiversary!
Hi everyone - our two year surgiversary is fast approaching - how is everyone doin'? Hope you are all happy and healthy and enjoying life. My - time flies when you are having fun! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

PS - Me - I'm healthy, happy, still working full time in ER. I had a BIG bump along the way last Aug - a Petersen's Hernia requiring emergency surgery - but still have no regrets. I have my life back - that had slowly been slipping away. I'm below my goal weight - was at goal last summer when I got sick. Lost an additional 20lbs over a month. Not a good way to drop weight. I put back on 6-7 lbs and manage to hover around 163-165lbs - with not too much effort. I don't count calories - I still mainly focus on getting adequate protein and liquids. I am moderately active and still walk. And the rest seems to take care of itself. I do have a treat now and then - and have a sociable drink. For the most part eat quite small portions - and eat as healthy as I can. My husband and son, and my friends are so happy that I feel so much better. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by such supportive and understanding people. I "pay it forward" whenever I can. I'm an open book - and only too glad to help anyone who has questions about WLS and who want to hear my story.

Topic: Join us in 2010

Hi April 08 surgery folks,

I'm inviting you to a little group to help those (yes, including myself) who have gained 10 or more pounds beyond that lowest weight. We are calling it the "Drop 10 for 10 Challenge". You can easily join this group by going to www.obesityhelp.com/group/Drop10410. I'm hoping that with your help we can generate a little excitement and enthusiasm for getting back on track. We will have a monthly weighin, but it will only be pounds off since the start of the new 2010 decade. Your participation is only what you want to make it. I'm pumped up and ready to get back on track for 2010.

There are no hard and fast rules for joining, but you really should be at least 10 pounds above your lowest post-surgery weight and interested in getting things back in line.

Let's get this new decade off to a great start.

Still holding about 133. I did however fall big time off the wagon for about two weeks when hubby had kidney stones. Lived off of chips and salsa. NOT GOOD. Gained 6 pounds real quick. Went back to all protein 100+ grams a day and bam dropped it right off within about a week and a half. Loving my RNY!
How is everyone else doing?
