Comparing to others and going nuts!!!
I had my surgery april 8 2008 and I cant help but compare myself to others. I was 297lb to start and as of yesterday at my 11 week weigh in, I have lost 50 lbs. Everyone tells me how great that is but I cant help comparing and still looking at myself as a failure. Does anyone else feel this way?
Also, my hair is starting to really fall out. Do I just go and get some biotin? There is biotin in my vitamins but obviously it isnt working!!! Help!!!
Hi Michele,
I'm right there with you! I had my surgery on April 23 and as of, just over, 9th week have lost 45 pounds. That, of course, is more then I've been able to get off in over ten years, but I still look at others and feel a little envious (ok, a lot envious! lol). I'm trying to work on being grateful for the lbs lost and hoping that it will just continue on to allow me to get to my goal weight. I guess it's like most anything, always wanting what the other has (like wanting curly hair instead of my fine, stick straight hair). LOL!
As to the hair loss, I have no advice to offer. I can sympathize though 'cause I'm definitely noticing more strands in the shower drain! Unfortunately, can't say that I expect it to get better anytime soon. I'm just going to "grin" and deal and really hope I don't need to get a wig before it gets better! Please let me know if you actually find something that works!!

I too feel it is taking too long. My RNY was 4/15 and I am down 42lbs. When I do the math it looks like about 4 lbs per week. Which in reality (not my altered state of I want to lose 50 lbs this week) is pretty good, and better than I EVER was able to accomplish in all my years of dieting. The one thing that keeps me motivated when I start getting envious is corney, but: slow & steady wins the race. After all is said and done, the one thing we can count on is that we WILL Lose the weight this time and the more we want it off now, only inspires us to KEEP it off FOREVER!!!
Stay positive, focus on your new body, new eating and keep up the good work.
I had my surgery on April 21 and have only lost 38.5 lbs compared to your 50 so I think you are doing an awesome job. Everyone is different and everyone tells me they already notice it and I notice nothing so I think everyone feels the same.
Hair loss I have not noticed so I can't help with that.
Good Luck
Robin
I too had my surgery on 4/21 and have lost 38 lbs! Of course we would all love to lose more. But don't you feel wonderful and excited about your future? I do, and I could not have lost this weight any other way...believe me I have tried, I think you all understand. Robin I'm glad we are on the same track, it does make me feel better about the 38 lbs. I have thick curly hair so I haven't noticed much hair lost either. Best of luck to all!

Ok I thought I was in this boat alone but, glad to see that I am not. I had my surgery on April 9 2008 and have lost 53 lbs and keep telling myself that I am going to the dr on Monday July 14 2008 and have to lose 14 more lbs by then cause my dr told me 67 lbs is the ideal weight loss for 3 months. So I have always worked out since I was given the go ahead by my dr but now I have stepped it up so lets see if I can do it ha ha in 5 days that is going to be hard. But all of yall are doing great and keep up the hard work it takes time i want to lose 100 lbs by tomorrow LOL!!! :-D
I am now at 13 weeks and only at 55lbs gone!!! I know I need to up the exercise. I walk 2 times a day at work for 20 minutes and sometime (but not often) at night for 30 minutes and that the extent of my exercise. That is just terrible. My doctor never told me an ideal weight I should be at for my 3 month appt so I just called the office and left a message...hahahahaha. I want to know what mine says. I guess everyones different depending on their start weight. My 3 months was July 8th but my 3 month post op isnt until July 23rd. So, I got a little time yet!!!!
Well Michelle ~ I feel exactly the same way as my surgery date was 4/7/08 and to date I have lost 62 lbs. I keep thinking that I should be losing more weight than I am so I started doing indoor water aerobics and I really LOVE it! I have always been a "buddy person" so when "my buddy" would say they did not want to walk or execise ~ I would not do it myself. But this the water aerobics class seems to be my answer. I go for the hour and come home feeling great.
I guess the way I look at it is we are all in the same boat and we just got to keep working at it day by day. The days that I feel like I am going to see a lost on the scale ~ well ~ you guessed it ~ that darn thing either stays the same or added back on a couple pounds! Now that sucks!!!
