Mainecare will not cover me

i have mainecare and medicare and i was told since i am not on meds for haven high colesteral and my bmi is not higher then 40 i cant have the lapband done or any thing. i have no idea on what to do now. b center asked me question and told me no right up front and said that mainecare wont do this for me cuz im not in bad enough health. ok so haven asthma and high colesteral not being able to run around with my kid and haven no energy body pain joint pain messed up knees cant lose weight and just sit at my same weight is not good enough. grrrrr im so pissed and angery and just feed up.

Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear that MaineCare will not cover you. That is very, very frustrating. I have a friend who is on MaineCare and had to have surgery to repair a hernia. It was pretty major surgery... and they kept her there for less than four hours! Sometimes I wonder if MaineCare is really there for the care of Mainers, or whether they are just looking for a quick (and cheap) fix. Regarding having a BMI under 40, most doctors won't perform any WLS without it. For example, my doctor requires people to either have a BMI over 40 or have some hard core health issues. I don't know if high cholesterol and asthma were on the list. (sorry to say) Can I ask what your BMI is right now? I'm in Maine too and would love to chat. Rebec
