Linda, my surgery is on 4/21, and I'm with you, honey. It's really starting to hit home. I am most afraid of 1) that I will die, and 2) the pain and recovery. Right now I am on day 8 of my two week liquid diet. Food is the last thing on my mind, so that doesn't phase me too much. I'll pray for you, you pray for me. We'll make it.

Hi Linda and Margo ,We're all going to make it just fine. No one dies....no one gets hurt. A speedy, pain-controlled recovery will be on the agenda...thanks to percocet. I'm a R.N and know that after surgery the best way to avoid the complications of surgery are to walk around ASAP after surgery as often as possible. Ask your surgeon and the anesthesiologist for PCA which is patient controlled anesthesia, which is pain meds at the touch of a button. This prevents you from having an injection and you get immediate relief. More importantly, the more comfortable you are the more able you are to get out of bed, walk, and move around and help to get the bowels to function and expel that gas and prevent blood clots. I have had 2 C-Sections and the gas pains were worse that the labor pains. Move your legs as often as you remember. Deep breathly as often as possible, use the incentive spirometer, this helps to prevent pneumonia. Keep hydrated...Throw in alot of prayers for good measure and we'll be soon be on our way to a great new body to buy clothes for. Keep smiling...and have some more Jello! lol susan

Wow, it seems that we are all having the same feelings and thoughts. My surgery date is april 22nd, and I have had horrible dreams, because I go to bed with the surgery on my mind. It's as if I find peace, and then I am worried. I am just glad to know that others are feeling the same way. I began to think, is this really the right thing for me, especially when you have other people telling you, "You don't look like you need the surgery", well, I began to think, I have tried just about every diet, working out like crazy and I may lose 10 pounds in 6 months and then gain more than that. I'm tired of the Yo-yoing all the time. Then I think, they only see what is on the outside, not what is going on inside and besides, I want the real me back, that I have not seen in years. I know that me being happy is going to make my family much happier as well. Good luck to everyone and many blessings that all will be well!

I felt just like you, i made my decision to have my surgey while shopping in target of all places i had been accepted for both the lap band & gastric, i was going to get the lapband, however ws discouraged by many people, and the gastric was the last thing on my mind, but when i got my call i needed to tell them what surgery i chose, i just spitout gastric, 3 weeks later i had it , i thought i was going to die, not wake up, pain, i have to say i have to this day not had any dumping, i had minmal pain afterwards, only alot of gas, make sure you walk alot to getthat out. i had my surgery and 2 h0urs later i was walking up and downthe halls, that was the worst of it, this was my second surgery i have ever had in my 45 years, and i could not have been happier, i got my surgery with Dr. Byrnes at musc charleston, sc. keep in mind its normal to be nervous, but these Dr.s and staff do this everyday, however, it's not normal for us to obese. you will be fine, I ma 8 weeks out of surgery lost 36 pounds, now i dont even know i have had surgery except i cant eat as much. thank god, take care god bless. keep in touch

Hi Linda. My surgery is also on 4/22 in Philadelphia. I went through the nervous stage but now just can't wait to get to surgery. I have been on a 10 day liquid diet and have lost 8 pounds so far. Did you have to do a liquid diet? Anyway, I wish you the best and we will both be on the loser's bench in no time. Good luck!!!! Linda Slaven
