Starting the liquid diet tomorrow... Ugh!!
I just started my 10 day clear liquid diet yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I thought, because I was so ready. It was a bit tough when my husband cooked his lunch and the aroma filled the whole house. When he was done cooking, I went and heated up some chicken broth, and that satisfied me enough to help me get through it.
Good luck to you. Just focus on your long term goal when you are struggling...
I just started my 2 week liquid diet -- right in the middle of a cruise! It's tough... and I was scared that I would want to cheat. But my doctor told me that the diet is to shrink the liver and make it small enough to work around in surgery -- and that if he gets in there and it's obvious I didn't follow the diet, he would pull out and reschedule! So... it hasn't been that hard because I realize that THIS TIME the change is for real, and that I WILL see the benefits of the perceived "sacrifices" -- not like diets in the past where I just hoped that changes will occur.
Good luck!
Wow... you're on a cruise? That is amazing because from what I hear, cruise ships have food available everywhere! Good luck! I am finding that the liquid diet is not as bad as I thought it would be. I am not hungry much and I feel satisfied. I think it is another way to prepare us for the diet we will have after the surgery. Good luck with your surgery!! I hope it's a new beginning for us both!!

Thank you for responding! I am not finding the liquid diet too bad either. I thought I would be hungry all the time but I seem to be doing ok (which is amazing to me!!). It was tough the first night when I cooked cheeseburgers for my son for dinner, boy I really wanted one, but I resisted. I think the fact that I am so ready for this is helping me get through these 9 days. I did cheat a little by having extra low-fat cottage cheese that first night but I figured that was better than a cheeseburger!! Anyway, I am almost halfway through the 9 days so I think I'm going to make it!! Hope you are still doing well also!!
Kathy
Kathy, I'm finishing up day five and it hasn't been too bad. I've gotten a little light headed at times, but after the first day, I wasn't really hungry. My surgery is on the 21st of April, so I will be on a liquid diet about 2 weeks. I'm losing weight! I think I've lost about 8 pounds already. I don't do well with sugar free stuff, so I am having a half a cup of low sodium V-8, which is good, and taking the protein powder (EAS Whey) with milk. Tonight for supper is was cream of chicken soup (strained). It was deli****hink this pre-surgery diet gears you up for being able to eat small amounts and the clear liquids. At least I'm hoping so. Good luck!
I think you are right. This liquid diet is a great way to prepare us for the post-surgery diet. I am finishing up day 4 and I am finding that I'm not hungry too much at all and that really surprises me! I feel like I am doing well because I am so ready for this surgery. I'm not crazy about veggie juice so I am having a cup grapefruit juice each day. I'm also allowed 1 c. milk OR 1/2 c. low-fat cottage cheese OR 8 oz yogurt... it's really not too hard to follow. I did eat extra cottage cheese the first day but I figure that wasn't too bad... what I really wanted was one of the cheeseburgers I made for my son!! LOL Anyway, thanks for the support... we are both going to get through this and be much healthier and happier!! Good luck to you too!!

I did the 2 shakes then had veggie soup for dinner .Today is my 3rd.Day I had my 2 shakes then a healthy choice dinner.I get so hungry .Please help.Any suggestions. Thanks linda
Linda,
Two shakes a day doesn't sound like enough to sustain your body. My liquid diet consists of 4 protein shakes per day. I usually plan them at the same times every day to make it easier to stick to it. (8:00 am, Noon, 4:00pm and 8:00pm). You might want to try having more than 2. Also, to supplement them, I am allowed one of the following per day:
1 c. 1% or fat-free milk
or 8 oz of fat free yogurt
or 1/2 c low fat cottage cheese
I usually eat the yogurt or the cottage cheese around 6:00pm to simulate dinner. Mid morning I have 1 c. grapefruit juice. It seems to be just enough to get me through to lunch. The other option is 2 c. veggie juice which could be split, 1 c in the morning and 1 c in the afternoon. I am finding that having "something" every couple of hours is working for me.
My biggest problem is in the evening. I want to eat more. By then, the only things I'm allowed are s/f popsicles, s/f jello, broth, water, diet soda, etc. I usually have some of all of them each evening to get me through.
Also, so you don't think I'm not human (LOL) I have cheated a little. I am allowed only broth, but on Day 2 I ate chicken noodle soup and I did eat the noodles. Also, I cheat by having a second helping of cottage cheese if I'm still hungry or I have both cottage cheese and yogurt in the same day. I figure if I'm at least eating what I'm supposed to eat, I should be ok. It's just the calories that are higher than they should be.
I hope this helps. Let me know how you are doing.
Kathy
