Tired and Starving

For the past 3 - 4 months, I have had two major things going on. I am starving all the time and also I am so tired sometimes (almost all the time) it is hard to make it through the day. Is anyone else experiencing any of this? And if youa re, what is the cause and the cure?

Kimberly, Are you getting enough protein and water? How about your vitamins-especially the B's?? I start to drag when I do not get enough B-complex with B-12. I also get the hunger pains and cravings when I am not getting enough protein or if I have been hitting the carbs. Eating carbs makes me VERY HUNGRY all the time. IT is hard to stop and I have to force myself to reach for the protein and then it dies down. Sometimes the tiredness can be hormone fluctuations. Our body's chemistry has been totally turned on it's head and our fluid levels and hormone levels have been pushed out of whack and need to find their balance. Lastly, it might be sleep problems. YOU can be getting to sleep but your body is not going into the deep sleep it needs to rest and recover. I know when I am dragging from lack of sleep I also really crave carbs. I know I through a lot at ya. Hopefully it gave you some ideas and you can try a process of elimination to find out what is going on with you.

Hey Sharra... stupid question here but do you take a B Complex and a B-12? And what's the difference between the two? I always thought B-12 was B complex. I tend to be a little on the tired side and would love to correct this if possible. I take one B-12, one multi, one iron and one calcium-plus D vitamin a day. I've been wanting to add flax seed & omega 6 to my daily routine but just haven't started it yet. I was also thinking of drinking this green drink every morning because it's loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and active enzymes. It's suppose to naturally increase your energy and help you absorb vitamins & minerals better. What other vitamins and/or healthy herbs has everyone else added to their daily routine?

A B-complex is not the same as B-12. I took B-12 sublingual alone for the first year. Then, I started to get tired and rundown. There is a new product available at most drug stores that is a liquid sublingual B-complex which also has 1000mcg of B-12. It is the perfect solution for me. Just try looking for it. If you cannot find it at home, they have it at www.drugstore.com

I've been going through the same thing as Kim. I am unable to sleep well. I go to bed about 10:30 and am up between 4 & 5 not matter what. I find myself not getting full now when I eat ~ I'm eating almost 3/4 of a cup of food at a time and that's a lot for me as about 6 weeks ago I could barely get in 2/3 of a cup. I just looked and my B-12 is 2500mcg but not complex. I have some at work as well that is 500mcg that I usually take around 3pm. I'm also very depressed for which I take prozac and effexor...but it doesn't seem to be enough??? I'm struggling to maintain and would even like to lose another 5 pounds (this would be against dr. recommendation thoug). Got any suggestions????

Yes all that Sharra said plus it can be stress related also it is our bodies way of telling us to slow down. One thing I do is make sure I am stilling to the rules about eatting and drinking and that does help with the hunger and I do take B-12. and give myself enough time to get sleep.

The problem is, I get more than enough protein in, I take all my vitamins, and my B-12 is actually a little high. I am very strickt about my eating and drinking also. I always wait that half hour. My GP seems to be perplexed as to why I am so tired and hungry. I guess for now it will stay a mystery.

So, what about your hormone levels and sleeping? I mentioned those also. The sleep thing can be sneaky because you are asleep and not aware. It is a VERY common side effect of WLS to have these problems. The rapid change in weight will change your circadium rythyms. (I hope I spelled that right). The only medications I am one now is estratest hormones and Lunesta for sleeping. I did not have to take these before surgery. Stay on it and do not just give up.
