Food Ideas????
I have to find lots of fast and healthy solutions. I use the frozen veggie packs alot. You can get a variety and it has more nutrients than a lot of fresh veggies since it is frozen right away at peak value. I use these with some lean meat to make stir fry.
ANother favorite is to cook favorite veggies and meat and then drizzle with just a LITTLE olive oil and sprinkle with herb cheese blend. (It comes in spice like container and you only use a bit so you save on fat).
There are lots of options with fresh fruit really coming into season. Try mixing with a yogurt blend, etc.
I am now experimenting with pita pockets or flatbread to make a quick meat veggie melt that tastes yummy.
If I need a sweet, I make a cream pudding pie wih SF pudding-favorite flavor and add NF dry milk along with the 2 cups of NF regular milk. YOu can even sneak some protein pwder in there and it still sets up good. Top with SF whipped topping and its good to go!
Hope this helps-this food is not bland and not boring...
I use a ready made pie crust that i brown in the oven. Find out what your favorte SF pudding flavor is-it will work with all of them. Mix together, 2 cups NF milk, 1/2cup NF dry milk, pudding mix. If you want, you can also add in a scoop of protein powder if it is similar flavor. Mix until starting to set up and pour into pie crust. Once it sets up, top with SF whipped topping. Then I crumble 2-3 SF oreo type cookies on top. YUMMY!
The NF dry milk makes it taste richer and you do not get that thin, sf taste that sometimes happens. Another great choice is the use the banana cream flavor and add banana slices. I can feed this to non dieters(and teenage girls) and they cannot tell the difference.
I have experiemented with this recipe, even trying to top with sour cream on the chocolate or adding cream cheese. It is all to taste but it is a great starting point for many quick and easy desserts you do not have to feel guilty about.
Well for breakfast I eat the Quaker oatmeal, 1 package with a banana (if I have room)
Or I can eat one or two eggs over easy or scrambled with cheese. If I just one one egg, often I will have it on top of a whole wheat half of a English muffin.
I also like cottage cheese pancakes, but they usually are way to heavy for me. Most of the time though, my pouch is just too sensitive for too much food in the morning so I just have a protein shake and have one of the above for a snack or lunch.
Lunch, if not one of the above, I usually eat whatever the kids are eating.. protein first though. Whole wheat toast (1 slice) with sandwich meat and cheese, a bit of olive oil mayo and lots of lettuce. Or if the kids are having grilled cheese and tomato soup, I eat half a grilled cheese and 1 cup or less of soup. Or I will eat the soup with some parmesan cheese in it. I also make home made pizza a lot and don't see anything wrong with having one slice. I make the dough with whole grains and one slice with my recipe is just 180 cals. I try to eat salad or some veggie with every meal, I have more energy that way. Tuna is nice, but I over did it in the first few months, so I haven't had it recently. I also like turkey chili.
Dinner I eat whatever I'm making for the family, just eating protein first. Spaghetti, meat without noodles (or I make a small serving of protein enriched whole grain noodles) I don't do that often though because they don't sit right with me. I never really changed my cooking, we ate pretty healthy before surgery. (whole grains, lower fats, lots of fruits and veggies, no soda or refined white flour or sugar) My only issue was the portion control. I could eat 5 eggs for breakfast at my highest weight, and still be hungry for more. Last night we had tacos, I made a taco salad for me. Used the lean meat and fat free beans on a bed of lettuce and ff sour cream with cheese. I sprinkled half a taco on top. Very yummy! I also make a lot of casseroles and love to bake. Protein first then veggies and fruit and whole grains.
My portions are usually a cup to a cup and a half (depending on the consistency)
I don't know how many calories your NUT says you can have at this far out.. but I'm still trying to loose weight and my calories are around 1200 cals. I'm not loosing any weight as of yet, but inches are still coming off. So you might not what to take my advice. LOL But it's what works for me. I feel healthy and strong. And I know I'm eating food for fuel and not just to eat.
Hope that helps.
