In the hospital..again !!
Yesterday I was admitted to the hospital. I thought all my complications were over, Gee, was I wrong. My right foot has dropped and I can't flex it up. I now havwe neuropathy.need to have a brace made for my foot, physical therapy, nerve conduction studies. All my blood levels were good but the doc said it does have to do with nutrition. So I am going to go read up on it now. Any suggestions??

Shar, I've read that beriberi, or thiamine (B1) deficiency can happen to WLS patients and cause this symptom (neuropathy and foot drop). Definitely ask to have your levels checked. All of us should be taking vitamin B1 regularly to prevent this: http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic221.htm
Call me stupid but I thought B-12 contained all the necessary B's that we needed to maintain a proper health? Should we all be taking extra B's like B1 & B complex? What is the difference between B12 and B Complex? Sorry for all the questions but seeing what is happening to Shar really concerns me. I feel like we are all very vulnerable and if we aren't extremely careful we could all end up with serious problems without the proper vitamins & nutrition.
While I believe losing weight has helped us in many ways to get healthier and has eliminated many of our other prior problems when we were over weight like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc... Having this surgery has also opened the door to many other health issues that could plague us if we aren't careful.
I've been very worried about a condition that I just woke up with about 4 weeks ago and it still hasn't gone away. I have seen 2 different doctors already and nobody can figure out what my problem is. I get worried thinking it has something to do with my WLS and maybe I'm deficient in something that's contributing to my blurred vision & dizziness. I've tried researching my symptoms but haven't been able to find anything. I also had blood work done and I'm only slightly low in Iron and vitamin D... which I have increased. All this stuff makes me nervous and I totally freak out when I forget to take my vitamins for a day. I'm worried that I could do some irreversible damage if I don't stay on top of things. Is anybody else as worried as I am? I swear I stress myself out sometimes over my health.
