Goal weight photo & Ceremony

Last night was the "pinning" ceremony for the WLS program that Cheri and I went through. It is really cool. They have everyone who had the surgery in 2007 attend. We get pinned by our surgeons (not a wrestling pin but a piece of jewelry!). Then we share where we are and where we are going. Lastly they open it up for us to ask the surgeons anything we want. It was so much FUN! There were many people I did not even recognize. I wanted to look as skinny as possible, so I bought new jeans and went cowgirl style. My Mom took a photo before I went so you all can see it on my profile. I felt like it was graduation or something. A firiend was taking pictures so I will upload those when I get them. Great night! Do any of you have similar thing with your programs?

I WISH my surgeon did something like that-that is just so cool! You should be very proud of yourself. I just peeked at your photo, and OMG you are looking hot, girl! You are an inspiration to me-I still have such a long way to go and don't know if I'll make it. Thanks for showing us what goal looks like!

I agree with Schmeesa, Sharra - you look HOT! If you wanted to look skinny, girl, you succeeded! I don't think they have anything similar here, but what a great idea. Congratulations on making goal! Marcia

You two are so sweet! I guess I am lucky to have such an awesome program here in my area. My surgeon is really nice and he really cares about us. They both talked about how much they enjoy doing the WLS and how gratifying it is for them. However, he also told us the credit all goes to us, we did the work, made the right choices, all they did was play in the operating room for a couple of hours. Great experience!

What a awesome program. I live 2 hours away from my surgeon's office, so I don't see him but 4 times this year. I think I will have a appointment at one year post op.. not sure! I sure wish there was something like that.. a graduation would be so cool! But to be fair, Molly ( Geminidream on OH ) goes to all the support meetings at my doc's office and raves about them. She lives in Spokane though and can make them. OH is my support system.. I have looked all over my little town for other WLS people.. but I've heard there are some around, but no one seems to want to get together. It's sad really. I've thought about joining weigh****chers or something.. maybe TOPS.. I won't tell them I'm a WLS patient.. I've heard they can be kinda negative about it. What do you all think? Maybe I should run a add in my tiny town's paper? LOL I won't leave my name though.. Everyone around here knows me because of my weird name. I guess in a small town.. you like to keep some things private. -Shakeira http://www.kettlefalls.com/ (my tiny town if yer interested)

I love that ceremony idea!! I wish we had something like that, but I am 3 miles from my surgeon and will only see him once a year from this point on. We do have WLS support groups in the area, 3 run by the same group in different towns and one new one that just sprung up, but all are totally inconvenient for me most of the time. I do think support groups are critical to success! Congrats Sharra! Inky

CONGRATS! YEAHHH!!! My WLS program does not do a ceremony for folks, but their support group meeting is pretty good, held monthly and I bet if I make this a suggestion...they would do it because it sounds like a great time.
