A wow moment
Hi, A-Teamers! We're almost a year out and people are getting used to seeing us skinnier, so we're not posting that many wow moments any more. But I have to tell you one I had last night that I thought was funny. My mother is in an assisted-living facility, which means they have a nurses' station in her building. I've been coming every week (or more) to take her to dinner, shopping, doctor's appointments, etc. Last night after visiting with Mom I had to ask one of the nurses a question on Mom's behalf. The nurse asked who my Mom was and I told her. She then got a puzzled look on her face, and asked if I was from out-of-town. Well, I thought everybody there knew me, and said, no I was local. She then asked about my sister, saying she was always coming out to visit Mom - said she was heavy set and tall. I had to think about it, because I don't have any sisters, neither of my sisters-in-law are heavy-set, and they both live out of town.
Then it dawned on me. She was talking about ME.
I'm not tall, but she's shorter than I am, so I guess that's where the tall comes in to play - or people associate being fat with being tall, or something.
I laughed and said, no, I don't have a sister - she was talking about me. She got this priceless look on her face, and looked me up and down. I then explained that I'd had a gastric bypass and had lost 90 pounds. I loved her reaction... The other nurses were more familiar with my situation, so evidently this particular one either had not worked there for awhile, or had been working a shift that wasn't when I would visit Mom.
Just had to share. See, we can still have those wow moments. Take care, all.
Marcia
Thanks for sharing that Marcia. What a wonderful story.
My sister-in-law works for me and everyday or so there is someone who thinks I am her or ask if we are sisters. Our hair is about the same color and we both wear glasses. I was about her size before surgery and even tho I have been there for 20 years they still are confused about us. My favorite WOW MOMENT is the other day I sat at my desk chair and had my foot in the seat and realized this is a BIG CHAIR! I had lots of extra room, actually I could sit sideways with my feet in the chair with plenty of room. I Love WOW moments wheather they are mine or someone elses, they are all a blessing!
Huggs,
Rhonda
Rhonda, you are so right! Wow moments are a blessing, a reminder to us of what we've accomplished. So did you feel like Edith Ann sitting in that chair? (Edith Ann is Lily Tomlin's little girl character - she always sits in a big rocking chair...)
I love your story about people mistaking you and your SIL for each other. I can top it in the "huh?" category... A dear friend, one whom I've known for 20 years, and I work together at our current jobs. For some reason, people are always calling me by her name, and vice versa. The odd thing is that we don't look a thing like each other. She's always been a size 10, and is 5' 8", and I started out here a size 24 (I'm down to 12 now) and am 5' 5". Go figure.
