HAIR LOSS...HELP!

I know this is an old topic for most of you... but I guess you could call me a late bloomer in this area...lol! My hair has gone thru some dramatic changes recently. I noticed it starting to fall out a lot over the past few months but OMG, it is looking really bad these days. If this keeps up I will be bald in the front for sure. That seems to be where I am losing it the most... I can't believe how thin it has become in the front. You can see my scalp...eeewww! It looks really gross and reminds me of an old lady or a comb over...lol. So my question is... does anyone know of some natural herbs or suppliments that I can take to help my hair? Something that either stops it from falling out or helps it to grow... or better yet both! I know we covered this topic a while back... but back then my hair wasn't falling out. I got kinda smug about the whole thing, thinking I got away with something. LOL! NO such luck. I plan on getting my haircut either today or tomorrow and I have to go real short because it's just sooo thin and nasty looking. My older girls said it looks like baby hair... you know that really thin baby soft hair. That is not flattering on a 40 some year old woman let me tell ya. And the sad thing is I had thin hair to begin with so this is really thin now... looking really bad. Anyone with suggestions let me know..... Thanks!

Hi Lisa, what a bummer! I lost probably half of my hair after surgery and it was very hard. It's only now starting to thicken up again. I increased my iron (I'm anemic) and now take an extra chewable zinc supplement in addition to my multivitamins that have some zinc in them. Also, I've noticed that when my protein is low for a few days, my hair starts to shed again. If I can keep it above 80g a day my hair stays put. I hope this helps.

I had a friend that told me to take extra B12 and it has prevented my hair from falling out. B12 is good for your hair and nails. I take 2 2500mcg subling tab every day and have since before my surgery. I haven't lost any hair yet. I also make sure I take all my vitamins as directed by my wt. loss center and eat lots of protein. So far so good for me. Give it a try. I buy my B12 at Walmart. Jan

Thanks everyone for some helpful info! I take 1 - 2500mg of B-12 a day... maybe I'll start taking two a day instead and see if that helps. The zinc is also a good idea. My doctor just has me on one multi vitamin a day and one B-12 a day. I do think I need to increase my protein... I seem to always fall short like only 50g a day. I'll try to increase that... even if it's with a protein shake. Thanks A-Teamers!

Cyrstal, where do you get the biotin and how much does that cost? I have seen the hair, skin, nails supplement before and was thinking of taking it... but the biotin sounds good too. So would you say your hair is improving now that you are on these supplements? I think I'll give this a try and see how it works for me. Thanks again everyone for all your helpful tips!

Hi Lisa, Biotin is pretty cheap..I got mine @ walmart for like $3 a bottle I think. A couple other alternatives to try as well: Selinium (I take this alternating w/ biotin) and Nioxin hair therapy. When my hair started to go, I cut it very short (as you can see by my pics). This helped lessen the loss as well. Anyway, Nioxin can be bought at any salon or beauty supply store. I get mine from Ulta. Its expensive there, but I get a lot more product for the money. I use the shampoo, scalp therapy (conditioner) and a mouse scalp treatment. Use the scalp treatment when your hair is dry though, cut if you use it when it is still wet, you'll have rock hard hair the entire day! Hope this helped! Oh, I use level 4 (chemically enhanced hair/noticeably thining).
