A new year... a new routine! I'm going to push myself a little bit harder this year.. or at least try to. As of right now, my routine consists of 5 days a week doing 60 min cardio - usually the elliptical - and then 30-45 min strength training. I'm meeting with a personal trainer on wedns night to make up a better plan for me, so I can target my problem areas a little better. But out of curiosity... what is everyone else doing???

I am just doing cardio and elliptical also...But I know someone who you really want to talk to is Lisa M. She does a trainers workout. I think she works out everyday...but she has a couple classes that she does...

I have been hitting the elliptical at least every other day for 30 minutes each session. I feel like I should be doing more but lately I have been run down with a miserable cold/flu or whatever I have here.

I have to admit...I've been sluggish when it comes to working out. I used to do 30 min on eliptical and 30 min. on treadmill. I am taking three classes at a time right now, so I had to freeze my gym membership until I graduate. I am really intimidated by those folks using the weights though. I feel like a dummy trying to figure out which ones to use and when. Maybe in May, I can up the courage to ask someone what to do...

try to mix it up a bit.. so I don't get board. On days where I have been really busy and running around cleaning and chasing my kids, I do my recumbent bike for 45 minutes. It's easy and almost relaxing. I usually watch something while I do it. On days where I'm stressed and haven't done much I use my treadmill and try to beat my time of a 15 minute mile and then I do some cool down stretches and yoga afterwards. (I have a DVD) On days where I really need a challenge I do the Biggest Looser DVD Workout. I enjoy the "Bootcamp" one. It's a lot of jumping around and punching with weights and I've really liked seeing myself go from.. "Oh my goodness I'm going to die" to "Wow this is getting easier and almost fun". The key word here being 'almost'! After bootcamp I might get on the bike or treadmill to make it a hour workout. I read somewhere that going longer then a hour is a waste of time and energy unless your a Olympic athlete or something. The body only needs a certain amount and after that it's overkill. I don't know if that's true.. but it seems right to me. So I try to work out everyday, no matter what. 45 minutes min a hour max. When I'm on my treadmill or bike I have 3 and 5 lb weights I punch or swing my arms or do reps with... Just to keep my blood going and hopefully build muscle. Also, I drink a protein shake right after working out.. my husband who used to be a trainer suggested that to me. I like how it makes me feel. Hope that helps. -Shakeira

Ok, I am not quite as active as I need to be...but it is better than what I was doing last year at this time - NOTHING! Typically 3x week I do 30 minutes of eliptical. I usually do some toning/weight after. Some weeks I have gone to a gym and added machines to this. This week (yesterday....I did a pilates/yoga/cardio/toning DVD for 60 minutes. It wasn't too bad, but I am hurting today!) I have a Tye Bo (sp?) DVD for tomorrow that I checked out from the library but I don't know that i am ready for it! I want to do more, but have trouble finding time and motivation.
