Shar. I tend to get constipated also. I take digestive enzymes that I get from my Chiro Dr who is a certified enzyme therapist. They are the highest quality and I KNOW they work. If I forget to take them-well in a couple days I have a problem. If you e-mail me where you are located-maybe he has someone in his network close to you that has gone through the additional schooling. I had MANY problems before surgery-I had exhausted every medication my gastroenterologist had prescribed before finding this new Dr. They can tell you what foods you are reacting to and get you the exact type you need. So sorry you are havng such a time of it.

I have had a few bouts of severe constipation that sent me to ER and they gave me pain meds but never admitted to the hosptial for it .. they told me streaching pain in the intestines r the worse kinda pain ,, I also had a appendectomy when I was a child and it ruptured and they had to cut out alont of my intestines it has never fully recovered but I TAKE alli and it really helps with my intestines run more smoothly than any of the laxatives they were giving me .. since I started taking it i have only had one episode of severe constipation and that was last night of all times huh but i forgot my alli over the Holidays. I paid dearly last night Lisa

Been there - but seem to have my program in line with focusing on "insoluble fiber" via Bob's Red Mill High Fiber cereal for breakfast every day (8g insoluble fiber per serving) and 2 colase tabs each night as an emollient. 2 cups of coffee each morning also seems to kick things off as well. I know that enzymes and beneficial bacteria are also important - was eating a bunch of the Kraft Live Active products with good results. Hope this helps!

Shar, I am so sorry to hear you had to go to the hospital again!! I hope the Miralax works for you, I use it occasionally as even with my beloved fiber cakes, I still have constipation problems! Hugs, Inky

Hi Shar, I luckily don't have this problem-I drink a lot of coffee and take heavy vitamin C, and that does the trick for me. But, I want you to know that I am very sorry you're going through this. It sounds so horrible, and spending New Year's Eve in the hospital can't be fun. I hope the miralax works for you, you poor thing. Take care!

Shar, sorry to hear you are having so much trouble and had to goto the hospital again. Not being able to have a BM is a real pain in the ...you know. I also have trouble with constipation now and I take Miralax 1 capful every day (unless I had horrible diarrhea, then I hold off for 1 day. AND that doesn't happen too often.) I did all the other tricks that work for most other folks, but they are not consistent in result and only the Miralax has really been working for me. Miralax is supposed to be a nonlaxitive that is nonaddicting and is not absorbed by the body but helps to draw water/fluid into the colon to help keep the stool soft and works for many folks. It is a lifesaver for me, and if I don't take it, well I can go for more that 5 days and be in real trouble with abdominal pain and discomfort. Not fun. GI docs will sometimes tell folks to use the miralax 2 to 3 times per day to get things moving at first and then settle into a daily once a day dose once things are more regular. Everyone is different on what their body needs. Remember that the pain meds that have narcotics in them can also back you up, so until you are off of them, you may need more Miralax than you would think. Also, you can talk to your doc about ALI...it is a pill for chronic constipation. GOOD LUCK!
