I was in the hospital, again

I spent New Year's in the hospital. I just returned home. Since my surgery I have had chronic constipation. When I finally have a BM, it's like having a baby. Well, I ripped my rectum and had the most severe pain imagineable. Dilaudid was shot into me every few minutes till I had a bit of relief. I was told my the GI doc to start taking Miralax twice a day. I hope this works cause nothing else has. I have tried increasing my fiber grams and that didn't help at all. Anyone else have chronic problems with their bowels that are this sever?

Good luck with the miralax nick takes the perscrption streangth once a day a full cap it is 17 grams I think and he has a BM about every 4-5 days. Happy New Year!!! dee

Dee, I know Dr F doesn't like laxatives, but I can't go on like this. I am going to give the miralax a try. He said to take it twice daily,,,,I sure hope it works. Happy New Year to you and your family

Im sorry that you are having so much trouble with your bowels. I just drink a cup of coffee every morning and that does the trick for me.

Coffee does nothing for me,,,,,,,,nothing does. I;m glad it works for you.

ooh shar, im so sorry you are going through this! What a way to ring in the new year! (((((((hugs)))))))))) I too just drink coffee. Lots and Lots of coffee all day and i dont have any trouble. Do you drink coffee?? Try it and see if it helps if you dont!

I am really not much of a coffee drinker, maybe 1 cup a day. And never caffeine because I have an ulcer. When I was much younger, a cup of coffee and a cigarette did the trick...........now I no longer smoke and only drink decaf.

Ohh Shar I am so sorry to hear that you were are still having so much pain. Well I had a patient that I used to take care of and he has been on mirlax for a couple years now, Well he is paralyzed and it does help him so I would think it will work for you...Have you tried hot prune juice? It is a old nursing secret. Try to drink it as hot as you can stand. It helps get things moving for sure. I have found that the fiber just thickens everything really has not helped with me at all. I hope that you start feeling better soon.

Crystal, I have tried the hot prune juice,,,didn't work. I think the higher fiber diet has also made it worse for me. How did the job interview go??

Shar, sorry to hear you spent New Years in the hospital. I hope the miralax works for you. I guess I am lucky, I haven't had any problems since surgery. Jan
