I am experiencing terrible back pain. I thought with weight loss this was suppose to get better. After surgery my back pain seemed to go away and now it is back and it is awful. I have made an appointment but they can't see me until the end of January. I have arthritis but is also could be a number of other things. I don't know if it is my muscles or my bones so therefore I am not sure who to go and see. In the past I tried pain meds, physical therapy, heat/ice, massage, so I don't know what can alleviate my back pain. I am down 50 lbs but I still have this back pain. When I lose more weight will this go away?

Try cutting all caffeine - and if you have chocolate, try cutting that as well. As you lose the weight, the pain will decrease - I promise you. I used to be crippled by back pain (had three surgeries on my spine b/c of a car accident). Due to the pain, I was inactive, and due to the inactivity / depression from pain, the weight piled on over the years. Stay as active as possible. Take tylenol while the pain is slight - this will prevent it from intensifying. Most importantly, caffiene will aggravate the symptoms of back pain. Make ice your new best friend - it'll take the swelling down. I hope this is helpful.

I have had a terrible time with my back also. At first I felt great from the weight loss and then after about 50-60 lbs I was suffering from spasms and unrelenting pain. My Dr said it was due to the supporting structure around my back is now gone. The curve of my spine has also changed since my weight had been pulling it unaturally for so many years. I still have some pain but it is much better since I started getting treatment from my chiropractor and doing the spine strengthening exercises. It is not an overnight cure but a nice side effect is how firm my belly has gotten. Firm and belly are not terms I thought would ever be associated with me!! Good Luck and I hope you find what works for you.

I too started having pain after about the 60 lb mark. I have gone to the chiropractor and physical therapy. Strengthening up the muscles in your back and core area seems to have helped me. Good luck.
