Medication Warning
It seems that our bodies treat some drugs very differently after WLS. I have been having trouble sleeping and my Dr prescribed some medication. My insurance would not cover it until I tried Ambien first.
So, I tried Ambien the last two nights. The first night it hit me within 5 minutes. The world got split into blocks and I was having a nice hallucination. Not scary or dizzy-just weird.
Last night went really well from my perspective. That was until my husband called me this morning and asked me about all my yacking and waking him up last night. What??? I asked. He said, why did you wake me up and ask me about the 3 people standing at the foot of the bed staring at us. Huh? He had a whole conversation with me about this hallucination and I have no recollection AT ALL. Spooked me out. I called the Dr to be safe but figured I just needed to get used to the medicine. They told me to STOP!
I am glad I called. Sometimes, we just take it because we are told too. This means we really need to be active with what is going on and if something does not seem right-call the experts.
Thought this might help others.
PS-now the insurance will pay for the prescription the Dr wanted me to have in the first place. I can only say I am relieved that I did not do anything dangerous while under Ambien's inlfuence. People have been known to drive, eat, etc while asleep. It was very stormy last night here and it scares me what could have happened.
That is pretty scary. I know that my doctor has offered to prescribe stuff that I am well aware is a no no after GBS. it is sad that they are so ill informed and don't even bother to take the time to check the side effects of some one with anatomy like ours! We tell them our history, you would think that they actually take that into account. I am glad that you escaped unharmed and definitely take this as a warning that you have to be your own advocate and do your own research!
So glad your off that med! Jus****ch something yesterday where a guy drove for 1/2 hour while asleep and hit a guy changing his tire and killed him. The wife and son where standing there when it happen. Also a lady on oh had warned me because she ate a whole box of cereal and even dumped while she was asleep and got naked and went back to bed and had no ideal till her daughter told her about it. I think ambian should be taken off the shelf!

wow.. sounds like fun..... NOT. Seriously... that stuff is legal? amazing! I have been having major troubles sleeping at night. I just take a simply sleep over the counter and it works well. I don't use it everynight though.. just nights where I need a bit more help. Simply sleep and a cup of tea do the deed for me.. but they are not nearly as fun... I'm missing out! ;) :p

Sharra, that is so interesting that you posted this! My boyfriend takes Ambien occasionally and I took one of his a few weeks ago to try it out. Like you, within 5 minutes I had a full LSD trip-I looked in the mirror and it was like my face was melting, and half an hour passed before Tom realized I was still standing there staring at myself! I went to bed, and woke up the next day feeling horribly groggy. I imagine it had something to do with the way we absorb meds-never again!
what works for me and my kids(5 and 7) melatonin 1 mg sub lingual it is safe and something some people don't make enough of. It doesn't make you go asleep it just makes you get ready to go to sleep. my kids take 4 and they chew them I found it when My son would stay up from 8 am till 2 am and I was going crazy. I read a book about autistic kids in the home and it was a tip and it works!
