Hi everyone Do any of you take zoloft? My dr. gave me a prescription the other day, which i had filled....but i cant seem to take it. I pick the bottle up and then put it down because i have too many concerns and worries about taking them. I am not really sure i want to and i hesitate in doing so. She wants me to take it due to situational depression and post traumatic stress for something ive been trying to deal with since BEFORE surgery. Honestly, i thought therapy alone would help me deal with this....i never expected (but im not surprised) that i would be expected to take an antidepressant. Some of my concerns are the side effects, mostly weight gain. Now really....a person who was willing to have gastric bypass surgery to lose weight would be the last person who would want to risk gaining it...Right?? Also i have other concerns, but for this board i thought if any of you are on zoloft you would be the best to ask regarding the weight gain worry that i have. Any other information, or opinion, would be helpful as well. Thanks!

I was hoping someone would be able to give me their advice or thoughts on this but im guessing nobody from the Ateam is on, or ever been on zoloft..?? Maybe i should post this concern on a bigger board. Either way, if i have reservations about taking zoloft i probably shouldnt...huh? Sometimes i think psych doctors...or doctors in general seem to think a pill will fix everything, when in fact it may only act as a band aid temporarily and cause future problems later. They say SSRI's are non addictive but i work in the substance abuse field and i see clients every day that have trouble withdrawing from prescription drugs that they began taking soley because their doctor gave it to them. Now usually i see this with pain meds moreso than anything else, but it still concerns me. Ill do more research.....in the meantime, if anyone is taking zoloft or knows someone taking zoloft, i would appreciate feedback if you have heard any problems they (or you) have had. Thanks A Team HOpe you have a beautiful day! Sharyn

I've been taking SSRI's for over a decade for OCD, which is well controlled with them. If anything, I lost some weight when I first went on them - but that side effect obviously wore off over time (LOL) - thus the RNY. I've not had many side effects with them, but that's just me - everyone is different. Just one opinion, hope it helps.

Hi. I've taken Zoloft for more than 10 years and wouldn't be without it. I certainly don't miss the crying and feelings of despair, and I love feeling "normal" without inexplicable horrible feelings that life is not worth living. I had WLS in April of 2007 and have lost almost 80 pounds--my surgeon is "very pleased" with my progress. So I'd heartily recommend Zoloft. Only one slight problem I can think of--sexual arousal is slower, but I can always get there with patience. Lyn

My husband is on Zoloft for depression and substance abuse. He has not had any side effects and it helps him greatly. One thing is the loss of libido but I take Paxil for anxiety and PDSD so I suffer from a loss of libido also. But anyway I was concerned about being on Paxil and tried to get off of it but, the depression coming back was too overpowering and I went back on. It helps a lot for coping with every day stress and the awful demons of the past. But you have to make the right choice for you. Best of luck. Joni

I was on zoloft for a long time and then it seemed to not help. I am now on lexapro and it makes me so sick to my stomach. I now take it at night to help with my belly but now I just have a hard time sleeping. I am going to my new doctor on the 27th I will see what he thinks. good luck to you. I do know I went off my meds for a few weeks because I figured i didn't need it anymore and I was ready to divorce my husband because he was on my nerves so bad well now that I am on my meds he doesn't seem to bad lol guess I need them more then I thought.

Thanks for your input everyone Its nice to see some positive response regarding antidepressants. Maybe i will consider taking a low dose to see how it goes. When i do research online i only see negative reaction and opinions....so its nice to see the flip side to help me with my decision. Thank you so much!

Thanks Crystal Ill seriously consider it. I picked the bottle up this morning, and then found myself setting it down again. I guess im just still undecided. Everyone's thoughts have really helped me though and i do feel better about taking it now for the most part. I think i hesitated this morning because im afraid of how ill react to it the first time taking it and i have this fear that ill be at work and get all loopy or fuzzy. (im a supervisor at a drug and alcohol rehab...this would NOT go over well if my colleagues or clients thought i were high!) Anyway, maybe ill take it tonite when i get home from the office and see how I react to it. ....or maybe ill wait until the weekend? see?? I need to just take it and hush up! Im driving myself crazy over this and its ridiculous! lol
