With the holidays coming...
I just wanted to check with people and see what they are planning on doing to make sure everything goes well with their weightloss. I know I have to go to 2 many places and I will have no hand in cooking much of the dinner and I am not sure what I will do so I don't offend anyone. You know that there is always someone at a get together that says "ohh you have to try my """""". and with that said We need to get our minds set.....
I guess I am lucky. My friends do not push food on me at all. I eat what I eat and they are thrilled for me. I'm sure Thanksgiving is going to be a challenge. I love stuffing. But I will fill up on turkey, which probably won't be too much because sometimes turkey is too dense for me. But I plan to taste whatever I want, all in moderation. We can do this! The A-team is up for the challenge!
Shar
I agree with Shar... everything in moderation and you can't go wrong. I have the job of preparing the big Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year so I plan on adding some tastey, healthy vegetable side dishes to the menu. I'm just gonna fill up on turkey and veggies and maybe just a small spoonful of stuffing & mashed potatoes with a little gravy. I actually think if we make wise choices you can eat a pretty healthy high protein Thanksgiving dinner without doing too much damage to our weight loss. As for dessert... well I plan on eating the tiniest sliver of pumpkin pie with a little whip cream on top and that's it (that is if I even have any room left)!
Thankfully, my family is a great support to me and they don't push food on me. They want to see me succeed and are so proud of my weight loss so far.
One thing you can do is tell your friends you would love to taste their dish but you just don't have any room left for another bite. Ask them if you can take a little home with you to sample later on. Maybe stick a few ziploc baggies in your purse so you can bring some home with you. Then sample them later on that night or the next day. One bite is all you need to tell your friends later how delicious their dish was.... they don't have to know you didn't eat the whole thing!
My folks are coming and they don't eat to excess, and my sister in law had RNY 2 years ago, so she's bringing the sugar free punkin pie I'm buying dinner at the grocery store (that box deal) and we're going to focus on our company and play games instead of eating our way through the day.
I'm not too worried, just not focusing on the food this year. Last year's thanksgiving night was when I decided to have the surgery and actively seek approval, so I have a great deal to be thankful for this year
Inky
I agree with Inky, taking the focus off the food is key. We all have so much to be thankful for if we think back to where we were a year ago. How much our lives have changed in such a short period of time. You just have decided it is not going to be about the food but the family and friends that you get to spend time with. I have very fortunate to have a family that is so supportive of me that I do not have to worry about somebody pushing food at me. I will have what I feel comfortable with (which we all know won't be alot) and concentrate on being with family.
Great topic! This year we decided to skip the whole cooking thing, and I am going with my boyfriend, brother, and cousin to a restaurant on the Columbia river that puts on a gigantic seafood buffet in addition to the traditional stuff. I plan on cracking crab and eating shrimp and avoiding the starches as well as I can. I will definitely have a taste of pie though. I was against the whole buffet idea, but it's hard when you have three big guys with you. I'll just roll with it and eat my little bit-at least there won't be leftovers at home to tempt me!
I am glad that most people have thought about this...My family are not ones too push me into eatting anything but I thought there are people out there that do...I just wanted to make sure everyone is mentally prepared for this first EATTING holiday....I hate holidays that focus around food....but I know I can be comfortable with everything.
Our oldest is hosting Thanksgiving this year so I won't have leftovers. My husband has converted the dip recipes into non-fat and they don't taste any different! I will make some of my sugarfree white chocolate cream pies.
I am totally prepared. It's weird how much my taste buds have changed. Even the fat free chips taste to "fatty" to me anymore. I also had downloaded a recipe for SF/LF pumpkin cheesecake. I may try to make that-we will see.
I do know that my pouch is still small and a bite of this and that will do just fine! AS long as I stay SF I will be safe. I REALLY want to join the century club by Dec 2nd.
