Good and Bad news (WOW and YUK Factors here!)
Hi all,
First the good news...I have officially lost 100# as of today! I am down to 143 (my wedding weight! and weight I was at when I was in the military! I am sooo happy and excited with the results from this surgery. I have 13# till my goal weight and I got in size 10 jeans and they are not tight! WOW!!!!
But, there is some bad news with that milestone that I got to have my first retched dumping experience. I have never dumped, even on small pieces of sugary items...mind you I usually don't eat those and if I do, it is in a small quantity. BUT, I was so happy that I was doing sooooo good that I decided to immediately REWARD MYSELF and have a small mini snickers, 3 small bite sized malt balls, and a small mini package of reeces pieces from my kids Halloween candy. Well, within 15-30 minutes I was hot, nauseated, and having the worst abdominal pain and diarrhea for the rest of the day. WHAT A REWARD FOR ALL MY WORK!
Lesson learned....the hard way!

First of all-CONGRATS on joining the century club. I hope to get there myself in about a month.
Second-I would be happy to dump on sugar rewards. I have heard from too many people that gave into the temptation for candy, didn't get sick and now are having a hard time staying away from it. I know it sounds weird but it is probably a blessing in disguise. I bet you don't want to go near candy any time soon.
I am toooooo scared to even try sugar goodies. This is a big time trigger food for me and I am not going to chance gettin re-addicted after the horribe withdrawals I went through after surgery.
Keep on doing a great job.
Thanks for the support...I was thinking that I was one of the folks who wasn't going to be a "dumper" on sugary items! Goes to show us that even if you didn't dump on one sugary item, it still could happen with the next one!
And, you can be sure I am not going near any candy or Chocolate for a very very very long time. The side effects were not pleasant!
congrats on joining the century club!!! That is a great accomplishment.
I'd consider dumping a blessing in disguise - I'm too scared to even try any sweets because that was my addiction pre-surgery and I can't give into it now, but I'd be glad to know I dump for sure - now you can manage that easily for fear you'll do it again!
Congrats, Dianne!!

I am doing pretty good now, 7 months post op. My complications were minor and well worth it with my excellent surgery results: I didn't get enough fluids in the OR, ended up hypotensive and that caused my gut and kidneys to not get enough blood flow for a short time, so they did not work well for a few days. (Ie, I couldn't get my urine out put up and my stomach and intestines didn't really start working right away so I had a hard time tolerating liquids and had to get alot of IVF instead. That kept me in the hospital 1 extra day, but it wasn't too bad.) I also got a thromboplebitis of my IV site that caused my arm to swell, that took several weeks to heal and the vein is likely thrombosed...ie, doesn't work any longer. I had a stricture that led me to have trouble eating solids for a very very long time. But I could tolerate liquids, so for the first few months, I primarily drank protein drinks and purees. Luckily I never had to get the stricture dilated since I always seemed to do ok with liquids.
Now at 7 months post op, I still have trouble with some foods but not all. Some stick in my pouch if I don't chew food well enough or eat something too hard that doesn't mush or crumble easily. I usually have 1-2 protein shakes per day to help keep my protein up. And, the best part is that I now can fit in my clothes from 10-15 years ago! I track my food intake, vitamins, water intake and exercise daily. If I don't it gets too easy to snack on crumbly cracker type foods and chips that are not good for me.
Good luck with your surgery. I would do it again. It is well worth it. I feel pretty darn good in comparison to how I felt before the surgery. In fact, I wish I would have done this it sooner!
