Surprises at 6 month appt

I had my 6 month appt today. I have lost 92 lbs! The surprise is my Dr wants me to lose another 40lbs. Huh? I set my goal at the high end of normal BMI which means I have another 25 lbs to goal, so I was really puzzled. Did anyone ese have this from their Dr? I also found out I was in better shape than I thought. I wanted to see a physical therapist due to problems with the supporting structure in my back and being in pain on and off. After the exam he told me I was really toned and in better condition than I thought. WOW! that was good news. He said all that riding has really toned my body up. Now what to do about my back? He suggested Pilates. I told him I had heard of it but had no idea what it entailed. Anyway, it was a very good appt but just a little puzzling. Sharra PS, the weight he wants me to go to is what I weighed in High School. Hmmmm....

For one I love your new avatar.. And yes my doctor wants me at 130 and I am 5"6".. As for the pain in your back how long have you been dealing with this?..My hips hurt and my back sometimes...and I was told it was your weight refluxing...and your body was trying to adjust..but pilates would help...my mom does it and he has a very bad back and bad knees. It is strength training would out hurting the joints. I am glad that your dr said your very toned...sounds like you had a great visit...Keep up the great work

Hey, you look great!!! I am also 5'6" and my doctor says that a normal weight for me would be 140lbs. But, he also said that if you can get to within 20% of that ideal weight that would be good too. So if I get to 160lbs that's okay. I personally want to get to 140lbs so that's my goal. Take care, Joni

Sharra I Love your new avatar!! At my 3 months appointment my surgeon shocked me with two goals - 100 pounds by 6 months (which I did not reach) and a final goal of 135 (my high school sophomore weight). I had a personal goal of about 150-155, so it was pretty insane to think I could get down to 135. We negotiated to 140, lol. I gave myself 2 years to lose the weight and I am determined, no matter how slow it comes off - you can it too!! Inky

Sharra, I'm loving your new avatar! You look gorgeous! Congratulations on being told you're in great shape-that must feel fantastic! The same thing with goal weight happened to me at my 6-month followup. I had thought my goal was 150, and my surgeon told me I should get down to 130, at LEAST (I'm only 5 ft 1" 1/2). Oh geez, I can't even imagine how that is supposed to happen, considering in high school I was very athletic, with a flat stomach and nice body and weighed 154 lbs. But hey, I'm going to try my best to make that happen!

I'm glad I am not the only one with this issue. I am 5'10" and he set a goal weight of 150lbs-yikes!! I wonder what happened to my new avatar now. I had straightened my hair and put on makeup-only lost about half a head of hair getting it styled!! Glad it turned out. AS for my back, it has been going on for about 2 months. I cannot get it stabilized. It can get so painful I miss work. I have my chiro work on it but it does not stay in darn it. MY chiro said the supporting structure is gone and I need to do a bunch of exercises to get my 'core' strengthened. Weird thing is the horse riding does not aggravate it. I just have to get where I can make it to the barn and saddle which is not easy when my hip is flared up and dragging.

I've been battling back pain since I lost weight, too! I never used to have this problem, but now my lower back actually wakes me up a couple of times at night, and when I get up in the morning I can barely walk at first. Once I'm up and active it goes away, but flares up again while I'm sleeping. I'm sure this is all part of my structure readjusting itself, but it sure is annoying.

25 lbs. ain't nuttin' ! You're in the home stretch, Cowgirl! "git-r-done" My back's been sore lately, too. Glad to hear it's probably just "a phase". Keep us posted. DD

I tried pilates for the first time a month ago and LOVE it. I'm just bummed that our gym only offers it once a week during the time I can go. Give it a try. Also, try it a couple of different times because there are lots of things they do differently each class and some are really hard and not as enjoyable, but some aren't as hard and you still feel the workout for the next two days! I highly recommend it. Let me know what you think. shana
