As much as I would like to eat cereal for breakfast it just doesn't have a high protein count that I need in the mornings. It's too high in carbs for me. Lately, I've been frustrated trying to eat breakfast because I just can't find anything high in protein to start my day off with... So I've been skipping breakfast...bad I know. I'm sick of eggs, sick of oatmeal and sick of protein shakes. What else is there that's high in protein? Any ideas anyone?

My nutritionist discourages eating cereal since it is a refined grain and goes into my bloodstream almost like sugar. I have either a protein shake or I really like turkey sausage. If you need something quick, Jimmy Dean makes a microwave turkey sausage patty that has a nice boost of protein with little fat. I also have french toast occasionally. I use cracked wheat sourdough bread which has 4 grams of protein and no fat or sugar in it. Since it is sourdough, it has a small glycemic reaction. I dip it in an egg and a little milk with some vanilla and cinnamon. It gives me a taste of carbs without causing cravings all day and combined, has a decent amount of protein in it. Hope this helps!

Lisa, I have a Dannon Light & Fit yogurt (60 cal; 7g sugar, 5g protein) and add 1/2 scoop of protein powder and 1/4 or 1/8 cup of slivered almonds or fiber one, to give it some life. The almonds can add more protein, or the fiber one for fiber if I need it.

For everyone here - I would highly suggest Kashi Go Lean. It has tons of fiber and protein. It is whole grain (complex carb) and thus does act as a sugar on the body. I do add a bit of fruit and a tsp of splenda because it is not sweet. I eat this everyday and stay regular (thank god!) and full until lunch. 1/2 c. Kashi Go Lean 1/2c. skim milk 1/4c. fruit (strawberry, blueberry or banana) 11 g of protein, 21g of carb (5g of which is fiber)

What the heck is a "Kashi Go Lean"? I'm just a country girl and have never heard of that but I do need some fiber, if you know what I mean.

Kashi Go Lean is a brand of cereal. Most supermarket chains as well as Target and Walmart seem to be carrying it these days. I can't paste a picture of it, but here is a link to the product description from the Kashi website http://www.kashi.com/products/golean_cereal_original Kashi has a bunch of products that I think are really good tasting and are higher in fiber than other foods. Enjoy!
