Aww, Crystal, I am sorry that you are sick - it sucks anytime, but I bet the first cold/flu after WLS must be very strange. My hubby was sick with a severe cold all week and I quarantined him to the den and there was much hand washing and lysol spraying. so far, so good! My favorite cold remedy is using Zicam Gel Swabs. You swab your nostrils with this stuff every 4 hours and at least for me, my colds are less severe and I seem to recover faster from them. You can get them in any drug store and even my grocery store caries them. Info here: http://zicam.com/Product.aspx?eid=1&catid=1 Good luck, Crystal, and keep the fluids up as best you can.

I've had the flu and a cold since my RNY and what has helped me is decaff hot tea. Peppermint.. throat coat.. whatever. The most important thing is to keep hydrated. When your not is runny keeping hydrated seems to help it.. (sounds like a paradox to me, but it really does work.) Also, I drank Nectar Cappuccino warm. What you do is mix one scoop up in cold water to make a paste and then pour hot (not boiling) water over it. It tastes divine.. and 23 grams of protein. I think you can do that with chocolate protein shakes too. Warm stuff always helps me when I have a sore throat. I hate drinking water or swallowing anything when I'm sick with a cold or flu. Also.. I you do take antihistamines, remember that they dry you out.. so be sure to keep up with the water or you will feel way worse.. believe me.. I know! Try soups too.. chicken soup is good after RNY too. Hope that helps and I hope you get better soon! -Shakeira
