Does anyone have this problem?
Hi everyone,
Does anyone else have this problem. When you eat food sometimes it goes down fine and in a couple of days if you have the same thing it makes you throw up? I still throw up a couple times a week. I'm pretty sure that sometimes it is caused by eating too fast. But other times no matter what it is I just throw it up? I spoke to someone who lives by me who had ryn and she said she got sick a couple times a week for the first year. She also told me after that time period her body got used to it and she also figured out what she could and couldn't eat. I was just wondering if any of you are going through the same thing as me?
Jenn
I have this problem too. It's a crap shoot. Yesterday, my favorite food (sashimi), which normally goes down perfectly, made me dry heave for like 15 minutes. I cannot vomit since surgery which is also weird. I just never know. Usually the foods I eat are fine, but sometimes I am overcome with nausea for a little while. I have no idea what triggers it. I am sure it will pass with time. We'll be fine.
Nothing makes me vomit, which confuses me. Sometimes i feel like i need to lay down and wait about a 1/2 hr for the tummy pain to subside, but never once have i gotten sick, or felt like i was going to. Sometimes i cant help but wonder if my surgeon did something wrong. If i werent losing weight, or didnt have the incision scars, i would seriously question whether or not i had the surgery. Its very weird.
Im sorry you get sick that often Jenn.
I guess you could try eating slower and see if that theory pans out.
I wish you the best
I think this problem is pretty common. My sister-in-law, now two years out from her RNY still throws up on commonly eaten foods from time to time, primarily because she eats it too fast.
The same goes for me, if I eat just a little to fast I will feel sick for a bit, sometimes throw up. I still can't quite tell when I am full, unless I gurlge, or my nose runs (weird yes, but see my profile for an explanation of this). Usually if I am really diligent about weighing/measuring my food and eating very slowly, I am fine.
I tried chinese food on thursday for the first time since surgery, and urgh, boy was I sick (beef with broccoli and steamed veggies on the side, soy sauce). so no chinese for me for a while.
My nose runs to signal I'm full, too! If it starts to run and I keep on eating, I will definitely get overfull and end up sick. Thanks so much for posting the explanation on your blog, Shrinky. The nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office had never heard of this phenomenon when I asked her about it, which seesm weird.
Chinese food still makes me very sick, too. I've tried to order the most healthy choices possible and it doesn't seem to help.
Chicken is a total crapshoot with me-sometimes I can eat it, and sometimes it comes right back up. I seem to do OK if I really eat very slowly, with tiny bites. But even then sometimes it gets rejected.
I know, the nose running thing is very odd. I had noticed it a couple of months ago, then remembered that whenever I ate at a restaurant I would get a runny nose, always thinking I must be allergic to something. Now I realize how much I was overeating when I ate in a restaurant (duh!).
always carrying tissue now,
