Holy Crap...my hair is falling out... Lots and lots of it.. I know this was to be expected but dang... all of my lovely hair. What can be done about this? Is there something I am missing in my diet to make this stop...will it stop? I guess I am kind of freaking out.

I have been dealing with this alot and for a while now. But first thing people ask is are you getting all your protein in? Then you should take Biotin or stuff called Hair skin and nails that is sold at GNC. My hair is very thin and in time it will stop but what I have done and what others are doing is getting new hair styles. I have had to go very short and just last week I had to go even shorter...I know it is kinda scarey so just try to relax and it will be ok......
Same thing is happening to me for about a month now. It's unbelievable how much hair I've lost. I went and bought the hair, skin, and nails from CVS and hope to take it religiously, but I've never been good at daily vitamins. I'm also not really getting all of my protein in, so I might be in trouble for a while if I don't figure this out soon.

Hi Camai,
Make sure you're getting enough protein - at the very least 60 grams a day. Unfortunately this is a pretty common side effect for WLS patients and once it starts you just have to ride the tide and keep your hair out of the drain. You won't go bald, I promise you. How many bald RNY patients do we see out here? None - but your hair will thin and I promise it will stop thinning and it will grow back.
I started losing mine early, around 2.5 months, and it's already slowed down. I had big rat-sized clumps of hair after a shower, now they are little pinky mouse sized. I can see the thinning, but no one else can, except my hairdresser knows. If you color your hair, darker colors will help thinning be less noticeable. Also, I chose to cut mine from shoulder length to a modified bob when it first started and two days ago I cut the rest off, to about 2-2.5 inches overall. I have wavy/curly hair. Lucky for me I love short hair.
So don't despair, eat your protein, get creative with your hair and keep the drain clear, this too shall pass.

Oh, the hair issue. I have been wanting to post also. Is it about to slow down? I sometimes think I'm not going to have a hair left on my head.
One thing I have done is wear my hair up almost everyday in a clip. When it is down, I can not seem to stop myself from running my hands through it and consequently pulling out large clumps.
Maybe I will start wearing a bandana on my head to cover how thin it is. It will be my new "Pirate Chic" look. What do ya think???
I knew all about this side effect-why is it I never thought it would happen to me???
