i had my surgery on april 17th and since i am down 50 lbs. i knew coming in that i would lose slower than most because i have to take prednisone for rheumatoid arthritis, but i just feel so bad about this, i keep beating myself up and wonder why i even had the surgery, any words of wisdom for me??????

It's ok. As of this morning I have lost 50 lbs also. I had band, but think of it as coming off the way your body needs it to. Don't look at the scale, look at your clothes. Take a picture of yourself now and look at one before surgery and see the comparison. You are doing fine. Hang in there

I know u can be discouraged with the amount u have lost to what u think u should be losing .. I keep hearing people say u r lap band vs RNY etc and u lose slower than RNY but u r RNY and on prednisone and that is such a hard combo to lose weight on ... period.. had my daughter on that and she became huge on it.. I think 50 lbs is amazing for someone on prednisone .. prednisone makes u gain weight and I know it maynot be conforting but u would not be 50 less w/o the wls .. u will lose the weight just not as fast as u like .. I became discouraged when I saw my fellow lap banders who had surgery same time as me and they had lost 70 lbs to my 10 .. I am down 15 lbs from surgery basically a pound a week if i look at it that way but it was not lost a pound at a time I had a real bad platuae for months and I did not have my tool working right tell now and I am losing .. My doc told me I am doing fine and said I am still in curve of weight loss and he said u r less now than a year ago right? I said yes and he said r u eating the same amouint u were a year ago and I said no then he said then your wls was sucessful .. So many factors effect how we lose My doc said he saw some RNY lose 100 lbs so fast and it took another year to lose 10 more lbs everyone is different on how we lose and where we store our fat Botton line we r not gaining and we r losing just maybe not how we like it .. I wish I was down 50 lbs from surgery day but I guess I was not gonna be the lucky one but I am the lucky one who was able to have the surgery ... so many people r not being approved for this surgery .. still .....so I tell my self I am lucky one I have a chance to lose weight with wls some people never will get the chance to try So try to think of it that way see if that helps some .. puts things back into perspective.. for me .. Congraduations 50 is alot of weight to lose .. really is .. u r doing awesome . Lisa

believe me I feel your pain the main reason I needed surgery was I had to take predisone 4 times a day the amount was more then a adult male and I was 4 and this was for 6 years. They said I will never be small and thats fine but healthy thats way to important!! You are doing great when have we ever been able to lose 50 lbs? I know it was really hard for me and i am slowing down already. Keep up the great work, you can do this!! You are already better then you were.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. I started out on the small side of a lot of people so I lose a lot slower. I started out at 251 the day of surgery and weigh 198 now. My doc says I am right on track!

I had my RNY on 4/4/07 and I am down 58.6. I also get annoyed that the weight loss seems to be slower than others I read about. I just keep reminding myself that these are life long changes I am making and that eventually I will get to where I need to be. Just keep at it! 50 pounds is a lot of weight!

I had my surgery (RNY) on April 17 also..... I am down lbs, I have been loosing steadily at about 2 lbs per week, but these last two weeks I have lost only 1 lbs per week, and i am exercising my butt off! I know where you are coming from, and I thought until today that I was the only one....I too have become discouraged, but like many say here, 50 lbs is 50 lbs, and we need to realize that....I heard on the news last night that loosing as little as 20-30 lbs can cure diabetes.....and we've lost 50, that's almost 100 lbs off our knees, feet and ankles..... so as long as we are making progress.....let us be positive, stick to the program, after all this is only a tool, and we will win the race...!! Hang in there, eat more protein, less carbs, and more exercise..! I have been slacking on the protein and carbs, so I know this has contributed to my slow loss, I am making changes! Good Luck
