Reverse peristalsis........
3 months, and finally I puke.....
I went to a minor league game with my office tonight. The doc's rented out the whole luxury box and had a cookout, complete with burgers, brats, etc. I chose to have just a burger (no bun). I ate about 2oz. before it didn't seem to set too well, and didn't think anything of it. About 1 hr later, the foamies began.... Then the dry heaves, then the projectile "reverse peristalsis"......
So ends the streak of nearly 5 years puke free. Felt much better after relieving myself of the offending burger. Must have been way too greasy, or maybe the minute amount of ketchup was too sugary - either way, I'm not going there for a while - only home made foods for me for a while!
Anyhow, goes to show that you can try to be careful with eating out - and still get turned around!
Lesson learned! That is how I look at it, this is all about learning what your new pouch can and can not handle. I find that on different days even foods that I tolerated, do not sit well. I would say that you must be a quick study, considering it took you that long to find something that did not sit well. Oh well I figure we all eventually join the club. Heres to hoping that this experience was a first and a last. I know that is no fun.
That's a huge bummer, but I must say I'm impressed that you managed to go this long without puking. That's amazing! I've barfed a LOT throughout this whole process. The worst was when I had the stricture-I threw up several times a day until it finally got resolved. If I get too dehydrated I get queasy, and anything can set me off. I thought I had mastered the chewing thoroughly and eating slowly thing, but sometimes the most innocuous-seeming foods will make me throw up. For example, a few days ago I had some tofu and veggies, and ended up violently barfing. I still don't know why! At least it only happens around once a week now. It used to happen several times a wee****il I learned when to stop and what to avoid. I guess I'm a slow learner.
One would think I'd be leery of anything new, but not me. I was in Detroit for a Tiger's game yesterday (they lost - bummer) and I took my friends to "Greektown" for an authentic greek meal. I ordered some appetizers for all, and partook carefully. We had Hommus (safe), Spinach Pie (safe), and Lamb Stuffed Vine Leaves (cautious, but safe). I had my usual portion (about 4-5oz max) and did just fine. When I got home, I tabulated the fat/calories/carbs and it was only 165 calories, 12 g of carb and 4 g of fat. It also had my usual 17-20 g of protein! Very pleased that I found a meal I can have without trouble!
Still, it amazes me what my friends could eat. The two guys I was with devoured their Gyro's platters (had to be like 20oz of food), and the petite gal with us downed a vegetarian Moussaka that had to be at least 20 oz as well. WOW! Where do they put all that food? LOL
