GAS... Is it just me?
DD
Yes it seems to be a problem for me too... I have learned that my body makes the most strange noises since surgery. I not only burp, pass gas and puke publicly without and ability to stop it but I make this alien sound that almost sounds like I made my OLD stomach a pond and filled it with pond beings. It is indeed the protien as well as the change in our digestive system. The best idea that has helped me is to add BEANO to foods that are gassy anyways and to move around directly after eating in hopes of releasing some of the gas orally before it heads south.
If you find anything that works for you please pass it on

Check to see if your protien contains whey that is a big cause of gas . I take soy protien and I really do not have gas issues unless I use whey I suggest maybe drinking half soy and half whey and see if that helps with the gas. U may have become lactose intolerant as whey is a by product of milk so u may want to ask your doc if lactaid may help.
I am glad hubby had his RNY seems he does not pass gas like he use 2..
But then again he use 100% soy protien
Good luck and send your wife my condolences .. LOL

My new name is "fart blossom". HeeHee. I have a lot of gas but luckily it is mostly air and not stinky. (sure, sure THATS what THEY all say!)
Problem last couple days has been not passing gas and being miserable with stomach cramps. Definitely would rather be noisy than in pain.
Just know, you are not alone...
Yes I think it is the protein as well. I still take gas-x the new thin strips so I can carry them with me at all times. It seems to help me alot. But you know what passing gas means that your bowels are moving nicely. and I never was a gasy person before so I think this is better than be constipated.. but anyway try the gas-X and try to switch your protein.. I use soy protein now and I have less issues. I hope this helps....STICKY
A friend of mine who also had RNY says that she also has the gas issues along with stinky stool (just what you wanted to know this am??!!) She uses a product that I believe is called Devrom. I just looked you can go to www.Devrom.com and check it out. It claims to be an internal deodorizer. She (my friend) claims that it has helped her. I have never tried it (although I probably could). Let us know if you use it and if it actually works.
I can relate to anyone here that is self-conscious about their BMs. This area of my life has certainly changed and it's not something I am happy about. The whole experience is completely different since surgery.
Also, I notice my stomach making the strangest sounds after I drink or eat... It's almost asthough I can hear things moving through the new pipes? So freakin strange!
Hi DD, I was having that problem for a month or so after surgery. I found that once I quite the protein shakes and all artificial sweeteners, the problem went away. I hardly pass gas at all anymore, and certainly much less than before surgery. If I have one serving now of sugar-free anything, the evil bariatric gas comes back.
