1. What complications did you have before surgery? This may sound dumb, but I injured my knee. I went to see a doctor and before even looking at me he told me to lose weight and my knee would feel better. He assumed that my knee issue was completely weight related and never even did an x-ray. I refused to go and see another doctor because I was mortified. The next doctor would probably tell me the same thing. I still feel like I haven't lost enough to be taken seriously, but when I do I will see a different doctor to find out about my knee. 2. Do you feel better now? Yes, losing the weight has made me feel like a younger person. My main motivation was to be able to be there for my kids and already we are out and about so much more. 3. Anything major happen to you since surgery? I have lost 87 pounds and I think that is major! I rode my bike today for the first time in over 3 years. We recently took a family vacation and walked like crazy. I would not have done that before the surgery. 4. How is your health now? I think over all everything is good. I do have issues in the female issues department, but that is nothing new. Hope that was what you were looking for.

1. What complications did you have before surgery? High blood pressure not responding to meds. Tried five meds before surgery none of them got me to a safe level. Minor sleep apnea. GERD. Joint and ankle pain. 2. Do you feel better now? Much improved, now I am still on Atenolol 100 mg but the b/p is more than within a safe range. No longer have knee or ankle pain. Am able to walk 2 miles a day where before walking down the hall was a nightmare. 3. Anything major happen to you since surgery? Aside from losing 62.5 pounds and recently buying size 14/16 sweatpants for walking, not really, lol. 4. How is your health now? I feel great, but have not had any follow-up tests except for a blood count to see if post-surgery anemia was resolved, and it was. Will have full tests and cholesterol/etc done in August. Just based on how I feel though, it is much improved. Inky

1. Pre-surgery complications: Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, knee pain 2. Feel better now: Lordy, yes. Am liking the compliments, but more importantly, am enjoying the energy, and the knee doesn't hurt as much. I bowled 4 games the other day, instead of my usual 3 (and the 3rd has always been a struggle). Could've bowled more, but it was time to leave. I walk into town at lunch now instead of driving - it's only 2 miles round trip, so why waste the gasoline and contribute to pollution? 3. Major happening since surgery: I consider losing 65 pounds since mid-April pretty major. Down from dress size 24 to a 16. 4. Current health: I am off the diabetes meds (last A1c was 6.5), my BP is normal, my HDL was 33, LDL was 106, triglycerides around 100 - my doctor has pronounced me near perfect. I am still on one BP medicine, plus vitamins, but that's nothing! Would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat. Any regrets? None...I wasn't ready to have the surgery before now. Would I recommend it to others? As long as they understand this is not the "easy" way out, sure. As long as they promise to thoroughly research it, and learn all the good and bad that can happen with the surgery, yes. Marcia

1. What complications did you have before surgery? GERD, Sleep Apnea, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Borderline Type 2 Diabetes, Low Back Pain 2. Do you feel better now? Yes, I'm more confident, more outgoing, I have more energy and sleep so much better at night. I feel like a new person and for the first time in a long time I feel emotionaly & physically good about myself! 3. Anything major happen to you since surgery? Other than losing 50-lbs and going from a size 22/24 to a size 16 in 3 months and feeling really good about myself inside & out.... I guess nothing major...lol! 4. How is your health now? Fabulous! No more Sleep Apnea, GERD, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, and my back pain is better. And I'm off all my meds! Oh and best of all I have more energy too! I'm so glad I made the decision to have this surgery and I would do it all over again. I have no regrets only happiness that I was fortunate enough to have my insurance cover this surgery. I was given a new leaf on life and for that I am truly grateful!!!
