Ursodiol/Actigall reaction?

Hi everyone, My surgeon has me on Urso for 6 months after surgery to prevent gallstones. Last weekend I spent some time in the sun, and got a slight sunburn on my arms and shoulders. Two days later, it turned into a horrible rash that was very hot to the touch. I saw my doctor, who suspects that it's a side effect of the Ursodiol. It's rare, but it can cause sun sensitivity. For the rest of the summer I have to be careful- to stay covered up and use 45-55 sunblock; otherwise, I'll have to go off of the medication. Have any of you experienced anything like this? Lisa

Hiya Lisa, I take Urso as well but have not experienced this side effect, probably because I use A LOT of sunblock anyway due to heat rashes (that I hope go away after I lose the weight). Be careful and use that sunblock, your less-aged skin will love you for it later on in life. Inky

Hi Inky, you're SO right! I had been so sedentary, hiding indoors away from the sun for so long, I had forgotten basic things like putting on sunblock and wearing a hat! I went berry-picking last Saturday and it didn't even occur to me to protect myself-duh. I also didn't realize I would have enough energy to pick in the fields for hours under the blazing hot sun without getting tired! This new life is crazy.

I did years ago and man that hurt....I hope that it clears up soon for you....
