Hey A-Teamers!!!
I just wanted to congratulate all of the A teamers. It seems that everyone is doing really well. But, I wanted to ask all of you about how food tastes to you now?
Every thing tastes kind of dull to me now. Even some of my favorites just don't taste that good. It's not nessacarily a bad thing. But, it makes me not want to eat at all. I just do it because I know that if I don't eat I won't lose weight. What's it like for the rest of you?
Joni
Hi Joni,
Eating for me now is kind of a chore. Like you, sometimes I'd rather not bother but I do it because we have to.
Every now and then I will crave or eat something specific, but for the most part, it's going through the motions. I know that when I spend more time cooking and using WLS recipes things are better, but there is not always time for that in my life.
Having said that, I am really grateful for this feeling and hope it lasts a good long time! Changing my way to eating to live rather than living to eat was one of my major goals, so I like changing that mindset for myself.

Thanks for asking - I've been wanting to ask the same thing. I, too, am at the point where I eat because I know I have to, not because I particularly want to. The only thing I've had lately that wasn't dull was some chicken-stuffed canoli from Macaroni Grill, and I think that tasted fairly decently because the chicken was ground up - meaning I didn't have to chew very long to get it to the consistency to swallow - and all the intense garlic/Italian seasoning. I think having to chew a long time might be contributing to the blah taste, especially with meat, which has no flavor whatsoever after awhile.
Sometimes I feel a little sick to my stomach at the thought of eating. I don't throw up or anything. It's just that I can't think of anything to eat that sounds good.
I suppose this can be construed as a good thing, but I do worry that I'll wind up starving myself unnecessarily. And with a mom who has a degree in nutrition, I worry about getting enough vitamins.

My sense of taste has changed completely! I still love food, unfortunately, but I'm super picky now, and sensitive to the slightest smell. If an egg is overcooked the smell alone turns my stomach. Many things that I used to like now bother me, such as certain spices like cumin, or too much garlic, and a lot of stuff tastes sickeningly sweet, too. The only thing that tastes consistently good to me now is fruit. I could eat it all day!
I ditto what everyone else has said about eating. To me eating is a chore and something I have to force myself to do or else I'll get sick. Many smells set me off and turn my stomach and many things just don't taste as good as they use to. I must say, I sometimes miss my love afair with food... but it's for the better and worth it to have my health back and a smaller me beginning to emerge!
Well, it looks like I am in good company...eating is a pain right now just trying to find the right things that my pouch can handle and that are a good protein source. I always hated cooking and now it is really hard since most food makes my pouch hurt still or get sick afterwards. Nothing really tastes good...although I did have a bite of low fat cheesecake that was decent yesterday and it didn't upset my stomach!.
Oh, well, I am so happy with my weight loss that I am not too worried about not wanting to eat and not liking it! It has such a wonderful side effect!

I mostly eat meat and crave green beans. I look for things with a tangy flavor (lite ceasar dressing and A1) I find that things that I used to like I no longer care for the flavor of. I guess that is just par for the course. As long as it is a losers course I am fine with that!! Congrats to all on the A team!!
