I've sprung a leak!
I have been having severe pains in the left side of my abdomen so I went to see one of my surgeons. I got checked into the hospital on Thursday and drank 40 oz of contrast in 3 hours *gag* and had a cat scan. They noticed contrast in my stomach lining. They weren't sure if it was backwash or a leak. They did an endoscope to check for ulcers and found my hole from the pouch to the intestines to be too small and stretched it out. They think the pain is caused by severe constipation but wanted to do an upper GI once the contrast worked out of my body. On Saturday I was let out of the hospital on laxatives and pain medication. Today I had my upper GI and it was noticed I have a very very small leak. My surgeon is on vacation for 2 weeks and his partner is trying to figure out when he will be back in town and they can do a surgery. I am their first patient out of all they have done to spring a leak. Hopefully this will help me lose weight. It took me 6 weeks to lose 28 lbs then the next 6 weeks to lose 4 lbs.
Just sharing my story!
Actually it is the 2nd surgeon that is working with me right now and trying to get everything in order. They believe this leak is a part of the pouch and stomach still connected. I surprisingly have a lot of faith in my surgeons. They do almost all of the RnY's together so they are known as a team. That is why she is trying to get a hold of my primary surgeon so he knows. He is the type of person that actually gives his patients his personal cell phone for them to call when there is a problem. I was on the phone with the surgeon a lot yesterday and with today being the 4th of July, I don't expect to hear from anyone.
Thank you for the well wishes
You know when you have a pain and someone steps on your foot and your thoughts go to that pain instead? That is the reason I am calm about it. I am so irritated by the pain in my side and that it won't go away that the leak, that causes no pain, isn't a big deal. I know the surgeons will fix it and hopefully I will start losing weight. I went into this surgery knowing whatever happens with the weight loss will happen. I have to do my best to help it along and improve my habits. That is why I was trying not to stress over the fact that I wasn't losing weight.
Thank you for the much needed positive vibes!
