What are our professions?
Well, we are apparently a very friendly, supportive group. I saw on another board how someone posted this subject. It's another way to get to know more about our exclusive little "family." So, tell us what profession you are in. Don't forget....stay at home moms is the hardest of them all! OK,,, I will go first.
I sell cemetery property and funerals. Don't be put off.......somebody has to do it. I know it seems morbid, but I am really helping people who are at the worst point of their lives. Being able to offer compassion is very important to me. I have been doing this for 12 years. Prior to this I was a respiratory therapist.
I have been a pediatric nurse for 22 years.
I have not worked outside my home though for the past 2 years.
Mostly due to health reasons and then I started watching my grandsons fulltime.
After they go to school, I might go back. By then my youngest will be in college and I will need something to keep me out of trouble
You sell cemetery plots? That is a really interesting job. I was going to say it was cool, but you are surrounded by sad cir****tances, so I'll go with interesting.
I am a Marketing Manager for a small biotech company (so small that I am technically the whole marketing department). I handle advertising, trade shows, and technical publications. I am also in the part-time MBA program at Northwestern University and attend classes in the evenings twice a week. I will start looking for a new job in the Fall to start when I am done with school in March. Maybe sooner though. Our company hit a rough patch financially last year and did a round of lay-offs. Since then things have been pretty tense and people are leaving left and right. My boss just gave his notice last week!! Times are about to get interesting....
I am a stay at home mom of 2 kids my son is 7 and has autism (high functioning) and my daughter is 5 and high maitence lol. I will be needing to get a job this Aug when both kids are in school full time and that freaks me out! I did go to school for medical assisting, but couldn't find a job even with graduating 2nd in my class. I would like to work at my surgeon office one day! I would also like to become a real estate agent. I am still trying to figure out how to find a job that will let me work 9-2 so I can drive the kids and pick them up from school! That is without saying do you want fries with that.
Great topic - as I sit here working some overtime today
I am a transcriptionist and I type probation reports for a large metropolitan county. I am fortunate to work from home (and type reports for a different county so I never "run into" anyone I know, lol).
Working from home isn't all it 's cut out to be, it's lonely, but the hours are good and no one hassles me. I sit and type for an hour, walk around, sit back down. I wear glamorous sweat pants and t shirts and sometimes even my jammies, lol. Everyone thinks I sit around watching TV and eating bonbons -- err, carrot sticks all day, but I work a solid 8 hour day and 40 hours a week, and then some.

Hi Shannon,
I started working as an independent contractor for a company in 2005, then eventually they offered me a full-time job in July 2006 in the legal department. I do work 40 hours a week, and though I can make my own schedule, it is a set weekly schedule (Mon 7 to 9 am/2 to 7 pm and Tue-Friday 7:30 to 4:00 pm).
There are many legitimate transcription companies - just google transcription services and click on jobs/careers for the different companies. My company is not hiring at this time, or I'd suggest it to you. Most counties do their own probation reports in-house, but you could check your local county or counties as well to see if they are hiring. I have a friend who does this locally, but they do not offer telecommuting. Probation reports are interesting - it's like having 8 hours of CSI in your head all day long. You have to have a strong stomach sometimes, but 90% of the cases I do are just dumb people doing incredibly dumb things (usually drug/theft related), the other 10% can be really awful, tragic things that terrible and sinister people do.
Hope this helps,
Inky
