I started with Fat Free Refried Beans with a little cheese. Also did alot of Hummus at first - both went down and stayed down well. As for cream of wheat and/or mashed taters, you'll have to supplement them with some protein mix to make them worth eating if you intend on counting them toward your 60-80g of protein. By themselves they have nothing in the way of protein to give you. You'll find that you'll be maximizing each meal to both tastebuds and whether it's worth it to eat them regarding protein content. Good luck, and welcome to the journey!

Cream of wheat or oatmeal made with milk instead of water went down well & gave me some protein! I added a couple packets of splenda to give it a little flavor. Another favorite was instant mashed potatoes mixed with milk instead of water to boost my protein. Cottage cheese has been a lifesaver for me and refried beans with a little melted cheese & sour cream was delicious! Applesauce, yogurt, most any kind of soups all went down well. My favorite soup was bean bacon soup (high in protein too). Also, try the sugar free puddings or jello's for a little treat. Good luck to you! Cheers!

I agree with Lisa, cottage cheese has been a lifesavor. I eat it almost every morning for breakfast because it is so siimple and when you are trying to get ready for work, I need simple. I also started with canned chicken because it is so moist. I didn't have a problem with it. Applesauce, canned green beans (they are more processed and easier to digest then fresh) and fish. Good Luck and welcome!!

I guess I have to say that I am like the rest. Refried beans with cheese and cottage cheese are two staples in my diet. I agree that unless you add protien powder to your cream of wheat and taters you may not find them to be worth eating. You will be amazed at how little you eat and in that little amount you have to get you proteins in. Good luck and welcome to the loser bench. Katherine

I agree with the Lite cottage cheese too. That is what I have for breakfast everyday and sometimes my evening snack. I was okay'd to eat Cream of wheat and potatoes about 2 weeks out, but it's true you don't get enough protien unless you add milk and for the instant potatoes instead of water I used Chicken broth. Best of Luck to you!! Dani

to boost your protein with those two foods, make them with milk instead of water and add you some nonfat dry milk powder. Allie

I made cream of wheat with skim plus milk so you get any extra 4 grams of protein vs. regular skim milk. I also added a little unjury unflavored protein powder, so all total I think it comes to around 20 grams of protein. I still can't handle mashed potatoes, they feel like a rock in my pouch, which is a good thing as I LOVED them pre-op. lol jen
